Got my first... Hmm... Compliment today.

I began in an almost all-women class 3 weeks ago and have been getting quite a bit of fuzz about my old fashioned fountain pen since (Safari).

Today we had a subject I have had before and the girls happened to see my notes in the break.
Without knowing who had written them one of them asked out "Who writes with that orange colour?"
I humbly admitted and her only reply was.... "Wow! I thought it would have been one of the girls."
Me: "Because of the colour?"
Her: "Partly. But also because of the nice handwriting. It doesn`t look anything like a mans handwriting".

I have NEVER gotten a compliment for my handwriting and certainly not from anyone with their eyesight still functioning!
However... I am a bit worried if my fountain pen is turning me gay because as we speak I have 11 girls waiting for me to photocopy my notes for them tomorrow.

In junior high (early 80's), it was recommended that one take typing before taking computer programming (on the all powerful TRS-80). I did- and was the only guy in the class. Oh, the horror of looking around at all the pretty girls I am a touch typist to this day, so I got more than ogling girls out of it.

It is indeed a shame that when it comes to handwriting, now, that masculine has to mean sloppy and barely intelligible. There was a time that good handwriting was very elegant and a thing of beauty. Hopefully, that tradition can continue to flourish, and that those of us who truly enjoy writing can continue to keep this art alive.

Wasn't handwriting one of the factors involved in the decision to have Jefferson do the DoI? Either way, that guy was good at a lot of things.

I'm still waiting on my first FP but feel like I can still contribute to this thread. I'm often criticized/admired because I have neat hand writing for a guy. I wouldn't say that it's not masculine; it isn't overly round or bubbly with inappropriate hearts everywhere. It is simply legible and neat. Honestly, I don't understand why a lot of my colleagues tend to write like a 5 year old with a giant crayon.

I got told that my handwriting looks like it is what they were taught cursive should look like in second grade. I took it as a huge compliment!

same here...typing in grade 7 back in the day, was me and about 25 other girls. it was rough.

The girls didn`t sound critical about the writing and certainly not the notes but I am not quite sure they found my writing particular masculine either.

In the past I have heard numerous girls mention that pretty writing was something guys obviously weren`t able to write.

I know what you mean about handwriting. I am a lefty and always had the awful handwriting that lefties are known for. Until I switched to a fountain pen. Once I started using a pen that actually glides over the paper my handwriting completely transformed. Now I get compliments and even asked to write out things that the customers will see.

I'm a lefty and switching to an FP is improving my writing slowly.

When I was in school only girls took typing, so I've always been somewhat handicapped in the computer age. My kids can type amazingly fast, over 100 WPM.

That being said, neither one of them learned to write. My kids handwriting is HORRIBLE. When they write they come off as completely illiterate. I'm sure this hurts them when they fill out job applications.
