    Default CF cedar sandalwood

Got around to using samples of Castle Forbes Cedar Sandalwood, both aftershave and cream. Does it smell like a hamster cage or is it just me?

I think it's just you. The woodsy cedar note is definitely strongest but it's a pleasant cedar. I guess it's reminding you of the wood chips for their cages?

Pick up a bottle of Old Spice Fiji-scented body wash if you want to smell hamster cage.

It's the one Castle Forbes I haven't tried since I have heard such mixed reviews regarding scent.

Does it matter? Scent's highly subjective. If you don't like it don't use it. Will the opinions of others change your opinion?

I thought it smelled like a hamster cage which had gotten wet and rotted a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I really like CF Lime, and the one time I tried the Cedar-Sandalwood it had the same CF quality and performance, but that smell is TRULY a subjective matter.

I didn't care for it when I first got it. But every once in a while I would give it a sniff and over a few weeks it has really grown on me. I still prefer Marlborough's scent, but in a few more weeks, who knows?

I bought a tub thinking I would like the smell. When I opened it I thought someone had some how made shaving cream out of the remains of a bbq made of an ashtray and twigs. Really didn't like the smell but the quality of the lather is epic. After about two weeks the smell has mellowed and the smokeyness has gained a really oaky depth. Now it smells nearly as good as it lathers. I've heard the lavender is very strong and wonder if something similar would happen to that after a while.

smells like a nutty cedarwood scent,.. mixed reviews tend to come from whether people like that kind of scent or not,.. for me during winter its as good as coming in to a cup of hot chocolate or coffee after shovelling the driveway in -40 lol,.. i love it personally but if a big chunk or wood doesnt sound like something you want to drop your nose on it may not be for you

Cedar is a polarizing scent, I've started to notice. Some like it and some hate it because it smells like pencil shavings or a hamster cage. If you don't like it, trade it or PIF it or sell it, someone will snap it up quick I'm sure!

A bold undertaking by them to to say the least. I can see how it could have that hamster cage effect on someone.

CF Cedar/Sandalwood is one of my favorite winter creams. I enjoy the scent and the performance is hard to beat. But if you do not enjoy it, send it down the line in the BST, it will not last long there.

I have also heard dehydrated peanut butter. The CF cedar wood was one of those scents that took me a while to warm up to. It is not my favorite but preforms great!

I'll agree that it does perform very well, but I couldn't get past the scent either. If it means anything, it was also my first sandalwood cream...

I hated the scent at first, but find myself wanting to use it more and more. I usually mix it with a more neutral/understated sandalwood cream, like Trumpers or TOBS sandalwood, mellows out the Cedar nicely.

Kaladin, i hope you dont judge sandalwood by this, as i'm not sure you can even detect the sandalwood in the scent at all really

    LOL!
That's funny but personally I like the smell of cedar chips but I'd prefer the sandalwood to be the prevailing scent.
