    Default Going back to DE

    Hi all!
Been reading for a while now, about time to jump in and start shaving already :)
When I started shaving 25+ years ago (can't believe it was that long), I learned from my father, as he was using an old butterfly double edge which eventually became my only razor. It hasn't lasted, as time and convenience of cartridge shaving took over. I knew all that time that the quality of my shave wasn't there, that's why I am here. I know I will stick to it this time. Glad I found this forum, great information!

Welcome! I'm a returnee myself. Much has changed (new products that work better than some older ones) and much remains the same (good technique is still good technique).

    Have fun,

Welcome back to DE only way to shave!

I always advise people to get a brush and soap in order to learn how to lather before starting with the DE razor. Using good lather instead of canned goo with your cartridge razor lets you master one aspect of this kind of shaving at a time. Learn your lathering, learn the multiple pass techniques of whisker reduction, then worry about putting a new sharp thing to your throat. Just ease into it bits at a time instead of trying to juggle all this stuff at once.

Welcome to B&B where you will find a great community of folks that are eager to help you get the most out of your shaving experience. Spend some time in the WIKI section to pick up some great pointers.

Thank you all! I am back with update and ask for more advice.
After 2 weeks of using soaps and brushes with cartridges, I finally had my first real shave today with my brand new Merkur 23c. I intentionally waited until Saturday, in case I'd cut my face off, didn't want risk doing it before work
Well, I did achieve a BBS shave, yay! But it did come at a price and it was paid in blood
I was trying to be very careful but noticed 2 thing that I was doing wrong, one is going over same spot several times and the other, moving my wrist.
I ended up with bad razor burn around my lips area. Used an alum bar and aftershave lotion and it did calmed down.
I am not giving up and I intend to stick to it, so my questions are:
    1. Should I continue with the same setup or try changing blade, soap, brush, etc.?
    2. What else would you recommend for a razor burn?
    Thanks again for your support!
