Default TFS Barbe Rosse vs. Bergamotto Neroli

I was lucky enough to try a sample of the Barbe Rosse which I found to be fantastic, very easy lathering and provided wonderful shaves. What I'm wondering is how similar the bergamotto neroli is. Can anyone that has tried both share their opinions? Am I wrong that the BN is marketed as being a higher end soap? If so, wow, it must be good.

I like the Barbe Rosse (BR) a bit better than the Bergamotto Neroli (BN). I got a sample of the BR with my group buy purchase of BN. It's probably just the container but I find that loading the BR is easier than loading the BN and that the BR has more cushion.

I think the scent of both are great. I really enjoy the amaretto scents of Italian soaps and the BR is no exception. I also enjoy citrus scents and the BN delivers there too.

Interesting, I was expecting the BN to be more popular.

The neroli scent is sharp, strong and intoxicating. Performance is the same for me from jars - same exact base formula. But, honestly I've only used the BR twice because I always reach for the Neroli. I haven't been this excited over a soap in ages.

I personally think the BN is a little better than the BR. I will say the BR is very good. I like it much better than cella and vitas. But the BN just smells decadent, and I think its a better soap. The texture is certainly different.

I think part of the issue is that many people tend to load heavily from freebies and less expensive soaps, but at $30 a jar, you use less product. And so the comparison gets muddied a bit

I find that both lather exceptionally well. Performance from both are equal and will boil down to scent of the day kind of deal. The BN is a "classier" scent a member once said cream popsicle and that's about right. I like the fact that it's different from all the almond & menthol we have. A nice citrus scent.

So you would describe the scent of the BN as creamcicle? But hopefully more complex. Not that that is a bad scent sounds great for summer. Please describe a little more if you can.

to me, it's light grapefruit. very refreshing, not overpowering or artificial. the only other grapefruit i have had is the KMF and this is much more subdued and gentler smelling.

I wish we could buy the Barbe Rosse in the US. I have a feeling it would be a huge hit. I'm having a hard time justifying the shipping.

Not to change the subject too much, between the BN and the bergamont-jasmine to you who may have tried both which is the better scent? as always YMMV. And has anyone tried the Sandalwood Boise yet? How does this scent compare to AOS Sandalwood it's the only Sandalwood I have smelled. I'm trying to figure out what to order when the new RR soaps arrive.

I kind of disagree with the consensus of how Bergamotto Neroli smells like. To my nose the hard version of the soap is just as much floral as it is citrus. It has surprisingly similar neroli accord compared to my Santa Maria Novella Zagara - neroli in Italian - fragrance. Honeyed sweetness coupled with that sharp, even metallic, tinge. I believe this scent to be all natural. Sometimes the sharpness of neroli makes one think it's synthetic.

    @Johnny_Ludlow:
Don't forget most people here don't know the hard version as it was just released. I think it's safe to assume they're discussing the soft version of BN.

    Marcel from basenotes? :)

Yeah, that's what I assumed. I also thought that the scents are similar in soft and hard - I might be wrong. Soft soap of course often smell stronger in itself, lather is different case. One should also remember that these are made in small batches, which makes talking about scents even more difficult.

    No, I'm not from basenotes.
The hard soap is similar in scent but much more subdued compared to the soft soap.
Having used the hard soap for about 6 times, I learned that there seems to be less citrus. The lather is top notch!
