    Default Flea market buys!

Just got back from a market where i found quite a few razors and snagged these two for myself. One is a mint Ever Ready SE, no idea of the date or model. It came with quite a few blades that look like they may be period marked Eveready CORRUX safety razor blade as well as some that look more modern also Ever Ready. I paid £10 (about $16.50)

I think the other is a Gillete New? Well used, loads of plating loss and a slightly bent tooth but no pitting so a useable shaver? Maybe worth replating? I only payed £2 (about $3.30) for that one. Some interesting old blades with this one too.

    Both are English made.

Any idea of the model of the Ever Ready and dates for both? Also do the prices sound OK? I'm new to this and really don't know what these old razors are worth yet.

There were also a couple of gorgeous Rolls razors complete with case and oilstone etc but I couldn't see me ever using them so managed to resist buying one of those too! :D

Very, very nice score. Some would consider the Streamline the "Holy Grail" of SE razors.

If you don't like the way it shaves and ever want to sell it, hit me up.

Congrats on such a nice find in the wild, as it gives the rest of us hope!!!

Super pickups! I'd freak out if I found a STREAMLINE and a British NEW at a freakin' flea market. Congrats!

Thanks folks, nice to know I didn't buy duds! Any idea about dates? What about the New, is it worth restoring?

Aaaaaahhhh The Streamline. One of two razors I absolutely want in my collection. The other being a Barbasol Razor. I just love how that thing is built. Solid as a rock!!!

The Streamline is a steal. Right now they are going for around $75 and up on fleabay. They don't come in that metal case as often as bakelite cases. They were made from the late 30's and then again in the mid 40-s to early 50's IIRC. I have a few. They are built and plated like tanks so yours should clean up nicely. Best SE shave out there IMHO. You should enjoy it! Congrats.

Score of the month! Many of us SE lovers would kill to make that kind of find.

I would certainly consider getting the Tech Handled New replated.

It is by far the best variant of British New IMHO (of course YMMV), given that the combination between the handle and head gives a perfect balance.

It's worth pointing out that the handle on the Tech Handled New is a different handle than that used on both British Fat Handled and Thin Handled Tech's - it falls in the middle of the three size-wise.

I'm not sure how rare they are in the overall scheme of things; to date, I've only ever seen three of them on sale on ebay (and I own all three of them ), compared with hundreds of British Fat and Thin Handled Tech's and a fair few other British New variants (such as Service Sets and hollow Ball-end Handled New's).

Thanks again for the info and comments! I'm just starting to clean up the New and it doesn't look so bad once the crud and verdigris are removed.

I'd imagined the the Streamline was older than it actually is, I was thinking 20s 0r 30s. I would never have guessed they were making them into the 50s! I think it'll be a while before I have the courage to try it out, I hear they're pretty unforgiving to inexperienced shavers! I'll probably give the New a try soon though and will probably get it replated eventually. Is it worth having that tooth straightened or not worth the risk? I can't imagine it's going to affect the shave much?

I've seen Streamlines in bakelite cases going for around £40-50 on eBay!

I also would like to state my deep envy for that score! The Streamline is dazzling.

I wouldn't try and straighten it if I were you; there is every chance that the tooth could snap off (and it doesn't take much effort for that to happen, believe me).

I wouldn't have thought that you'll notice it at all when shaving tbh.
