Default best DE shave so far

Hello all! Well, early this morning I took some extra time and was able to get a very good shave. I can surely see how more time spent on the preparation pays off. I used the Prorasso pre-shave cream in the shower. After, I progressed by washing the face well. I then built a good lather from the CO Bigelow shaving cream in a cereal bowl. I applied some lather, let a hot towel sit for about 3 minutes. I made about five passes. My end result was almost BBS. I splashed some cold water on the face, then applied some balm..L'Occitane CADE. Overall, I was pleased. The grain on my neck is a bit tricky, so I still need to learn more about adjusting for the proper angle.

Update: Thanks to all for the replies. I guess I am lucky to be able to do five passes without much irritation. I will work on my technique and hopefully cut down a pass.

Yeah five passes is a bit much. As your technique improves you should be able to have a great shave in three. Don't worry about getting a perfect shave. Work on a good shave for now. Your preparation looks good to me though, maybe wash the face and neck before the pre-shave cream. Unless Prorasso recommends that progression. Keep up the good work!
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Wow! Five passes is a lot. I have trouble with the grain on my neck too. Check out this face map link to determine the grain direction of your beard on various parts of your face and neck. You might be able to cut down a pass or two...if you want to save time and maybe some skin.

Good job, do as many passes that feel comfortable for you, and give you the results you desire

Surprisingly, it is not very irritated. The balm calmed it down quite a bit.

    Welcome to B&B!

You might want to look up the Mantic59 video on advanced techniques. He demonstrates a few techniques such as blade buffing, J hooking, and the Gillette slide to deal with trouble spots without having to do complete passes.
