Default Help with choosing between the two

    Hi all,

Im about to make my third brush purchase, and I have narrowed it down to two. Problem is don't know much about either appart from the fact one is called Silvertip and the other super badger.

The two I'm look at are

    Muhle 091K256- silvertip

Edwin Jagger super badger shave brush from Crabtree and evelyn (doesn't seem to have model)

Im look for the superior luxury factor of the two?

The silvertip should be a better grade than the super badger.

Its not possible to make an informed decision, unless you buy both and compare them. This is the only way to know.

Great logic, although it doesn't take much convincing to buy new kit does it

Looking forward to it, will post back impressions once they arrive. I mostly use my tobs pure badger so will be a good difference hopefully

Ok, so my two new brushes arrived today. Very eager when they arrived, but first I thought I would de funk them aiittle before trying them out. Both silvertip and boar were subjected to the luxury of my girlfriends Schwarzkopf shampoo and conditioner (hope to god she doesn't notice or I'm a dead man!!) had great success doing this with my tobs pure badger (they come out with that salon hair hahaha)

I hung them up to dry, but was too excited to try the silvertip so the drying phase was put on hold till after my evening shave ( I know, I know too impatient). Today I was lathering up some tobs sandlewood, and wow what a huge difference in lathering capability, this thing loads up soo well it ridiculous. There is minimal "flop" not nearly as much as I would have expected, and the feel!!! OMG it's luxury with a handle. I find it produced the creamy thick lather allot quicker than the pure badger and my synthetic brush. I'm very happy with this brush and it will be my "plenty time on my hands to shave" brush for those times where you have a great deal of time to really enjoy and take your sweet time with the tradition shaving process.

Nice, I read that it's expected to lose a few strands as some don't quite gel to the resin during manufacture

Just for interest, what synthetic are you comparing this against?

This is an EJ Medium Silvertip in Light Horn (faux)

Ok, so today I took the opportunity of testing out my semouge 1305, very very different to a badger being my first boar brush, but I was surprisingly impressed. I actually like it more than my tobs pure badger. I expected it to be prickly but in all honesty it's actually less prickly than the tobs, it lathers very well especially today as I used my Wahl traditional barbers coconut shave cream which generally takes longer to lather than my other creams, this thing whip up very quickly and applied very nicely. I suspect it will do well with my soaps also.

It's actually quite soft and I'd say it has a better "luxury factor" than the tobs pure badger, which is strange as all my research would imply the complete opposite between badger and boar, although it doesn't compare to the silvertip in the luxury sense this is quickly becoming my second favorite brush.

The EJ is a fabulous brush. They make the CO Bigelow brushes which are their version of the Simpson Chubby. I had one and it was a killer brush.
