Default What tequilas are you drinking?

Considering it's Cinco de Mayo, I thought it pertinent to ask: what tequila(s) are you drinking?

I'm a fan of nice, 100% agave tequilas but am relatively new to sipping liquors. Some of the complexities of tequila remind me of scotch in a way. I was thinking of picking up a bottle of the Espolon Blanco Tequila today because it sounds like a nice affordable option with good reviews.

Tried som KAH at the local package store yesterday. Nice 110 proof Reposado, the 80 proof Blanco was pretty mild and bland. I took home a small hand painted black skull of the Anejo and haven't had a chance to sample it. The hand painted skulls are pretty cool bottles, but I don't know if it is enough to justify the price tag.

Silver (blanco) - 1800, Familia Camarena, Milagro and newest surprise for me Kirkland (Costco house brand) at a cheap $18.95 for 1.75L bottle. Much better in a margarita that the low price might suggest

Reposado - Familia Camarena and Cazadores

Anejo - I am not familiar enough with this expression to make an intelligent choice.

All of the above are 100% agave.
    My mileage does vary.

My two of choice are Cabo Wabo, and the Paton series of tequilas.

Made a large batch of killer margaritas for my neighbors' Cinco de Mayo party yesterday. Squeezed all the juice (lemons, limes and a couple of tangerines), added a bit of agave syrup and used Cointreau and Cazadores as the octane ingredients. So good on the rocks. Folks were kind of wobbly afterwards, but fortunately it just a local block party so nobody had to drive home :)

Cazadores is my go-to tequila for most things: great for mixing, fairly good straight up. This said, I also enjoy Herradura tequila for sipping.

I ended up getting the Espolon Blanco. It seems much more suited to be used in cocktails, honestly. It was pretty smooth to drink straight especially for $20/750mL but I was hoping for better. I made some paloma's yesterday with it and they were great.

I was starting to worry that I was the only one that drank tequila yesterday. I did have a hard time getting limes so hopefully people weren't just putting those in Coronas.

As a scotch and bourbon fan, I am fairly new to tequilas. The two that I currently have are the Herradura Reposado and the Casa Noble Reposado. Both are prices about the same and are very good. I have tried and enjoyed them both in margaritas and straight as a sipping tequila. I have also tried the Casa Noble Anejo at a restaurant and really liked the taste, however it seems to be a little hard to find in my area.

Not many Australians drink good tequila, it's just so expensive here.

One that I found a couple of years ago and really enjoyed was called Origine. They had an anejo and a blanco, both were very good. I wish I could find it again.

I always try to buy tequila that I don't feel bad mixing into drinks, but that would also taste good being sipped straight. My current inexpensive go-to is 100 Años: 100% agave, reposado, and costs a little under $17 a bottle. (I know that sounds expensive, but tequilas aren't cheap in my neck of the woods.)

    Lunazul Blanco, Reposado
    Espolon Blanco, Reposado
    Both 100% Agave

Honestly, for me it's all about margaritas.

Clase Azul Reposado in a chilled champagne glass. Beautiful sipping tequila. My wife and I go to Mexico several times a year and bring back several bottles of tequila. So many great "sipping" not shooting tequilas. Many are aged in oak bourbon or congnac barrels and have that charred caramel vanilla sweetness.

We use Milagro Silver for top-shelf never frozen margaritas. Other sipping tequila we like include Don Pilar and Partida Reposado. If you ever have a chance to try Gran Centenario Leyenda Extra Anejo, you must!

    FYI - Patron...if the Mexican's won't drink it, why should I!

I completely agree about Patron; way overrated and not worth it.

Milagro Silver is usually my go-to, reasonably priced 100% agave tequila. Good stuff.

I'll have to try the Clase Azul Reposado. I'm envious that you're able to get tequila directly from Mexico.

Clase Azul is difficult to find in the US, unless you live in CA but you can order it online @

There are also several Mexican wines that I really like but cannot get them in the US either.

My favorite summer drink is a Milagro silver, Fresca and Lime.

    +1 for Cabo Wabo.

My wife is a big tequila fan so we've sampled quite a few. She prefers on the rocks with about 1/2 a lime and a splash of grand marnier. I also have to agree that Patron, while good, seems priced too high.

For a cheaper option, I like El Jimador too, and it's 100% agave.

I think my favorite category would be the reposado's. Anejo is supposedly better, but I can't tell the difference worth the price. Now, the price of a single barrel bourbon I can very much appreciate. As always, YMMV

I recently did a project for DeLeon Tequila, corporate offices. I worked one bottle of each (4) into my fee.

Currently working on the "51". That's their 'extra Anejo. All of them were good but got better as they got more aged.

I'll have to add DeLeon to the list to try. Don't remember seeing them in Mexico and will have to look next time I'm there.
