So, Moss Scuttle.... Who uses one? How do you like it? Post a pic!
I just ordered one, and can't wait to try it.

I use a scuttle most days, but have the Dirty Bird, Georgetown, and RB scuttles (no Moss yet).

I've got a Dirty Bird 1.5 and love it. The first time I used it, so much lather erupted from it that I checked it through and through to make sure that Julie hadn't somehow installed a hot lather machine somewhere in there.

I started looking into them, seems they're away till the end of May. Overall from all of the reviews i've been reading, the Dirty Bird seems to be highly liked.
Canceled the Moss (a bit pricey), and ordered a Georgetown G20!
If anyone wants to share a review and/or post some pics, that'd be informative!

Will do, wasn't sure if anyone has the new version. I spoke with Georgetown to day to see if they currently have any in stock. The woman I spoke with said they are in stock, but to purchase via the website, as she does not know pricing information b/c they are so new.
Here is the current G20 in the color I picked:

Ok, this means you might as well get the Moss and do a scuttle-off!![]()

Kind of an apple to orange comparison in a major sense. Unless I am badly mistaken, the Georgetown piece is made with a mold. The Dirty Bird is hand thrown. Not that it makes a difference in function or quality per se, it is just they would be uh...different from the get go. Not one being better or worse by virtue of mold vs hand thrown. Kind of an esoteric issue if anything.

Update: I received the Georgetown G20 & Dirty Bird 1.5 today. The Dirty Bird is a little larger, and has an open spout. I tried out the Georgetown today, and saved the Dirty Bird for tomorrow.
The lather was fantastic, it seemed like less cream was required to make a nice lather, just like jpr316 said, the normal brushing turned out to be an over full scuttle! All I can say is pure decadence. I filled with water from a kettle, and let it sit about 10-15 minutes to cool off a bit. (I didn't have a thermometer handy) Once I thought it was cooled down to a point that it wouldn't dry out the lather, I went ahead and lathered up. Amazing, the third pass was just as warm and luxurious as the first. I'm hooked, and can't wait to try out the Dirty Bird 1.5 tomorrow.
Here's a few pics of what I used today:
Sorry for the rough pictures, but didn't charge my dslr after the last birthday party. Oh and that is the real, original royall lyme. I picked up a few different variations on a bermuda vacation about 18 years ago.

Subscribed to this thread. I'm curious to read about your comparisons.

Ok, Round two: Fight!
I gave the Dirty Bird 1.5 a shot today. It performed fantastically, gorgeous overflowing warm lather throughout all three passes. However it's base is a little too big for my tiny sink. I really did enjoy using it, but between the two, i'm partial to the GP. I think the Dirty Bird may make an excellent fathers day gift for my father in law. (If I don't decide to keep it anyway)
In conclusion, they're both excellent scuttles both functionally and aesthetically. I really do appreciate the hand thrown craftsmanship of the Dirty Bird. The performance of both were fantastic, but i'd give the heat retention edge to the Georgetown. You won't be disappointed with either Scuttle. I'd recommend both to anyone who wants to enjoy warm luxurious lather throughout their entire shave.
Too true. The GP scuttle works well and is a nice piece, but alas, it is mold made... but hand painted, according to a company rep I talked with.
Wishing I was back on the AT.
Don't forget about heat retention. It may be more of a factor during the winter than now.

I suppose I am in the minority. I have had a moss scuttle in the shave den for over 5 years. The purpose of the scuttle is to keep the brush warm, rather than to create lather. I think it works exactly as intended. I have the small scuttle, and it holds as big as a chubby 3 or PL 10.

They both held heat very well, but I thought the Georgetown lost less heat through all three passes.
I can understand someone using the scuttle to keep the brush warm, I'm sure it works very well. I do prefer to lather in it, and use that fantastically warm lather!
Scuttle off lmao!!!![]()
