I realize that this is somewhat off-topic, and apologize for that, but can someone please explain the difference between the two Rapira types shown above (or point me to a discussion of that). I have searched extensively but not found much that was helpful in distinguishing them.

Swedish vs. Russian made? I'm not sure, that was my guess, I'm pretty sure Rapira has different countries of origin...

I guess white one is old packaging, but for me white ones are better than pinks.Tried tons of them enought to compare.

Seems a little pricey for what's offered.
Switch to DE shaving "it saves you money".....

I love the '58 TV Special. Great razor to get started with, and although I now have a stable of fine British Gillettes (with the #21 being my favorite among solid-guards) I still love my TV Special. Just got back from a quick trip to LA, and a '58 is what I packed. Maybe not an exhilarating experience, but if I expect to have to shave in a hurry in a hotel bathroom with poor light and a non-magnified mirror at sub-optimal distance (and who knows what kind of water), I can depend on a '58 TV Special to give a plenty close-enough, 2-pass shave with very low risk of a nick that someone will be staring at from across the table in a breakfast meeting 30 minutes later. I have 3 of these, and it's what I gave my 21-year-old son to get him started.

I won't speak to price other than to say while I've paid more, decent '58 TV Specials go on eBay in the $20s.

Wow, I want to see the setup in your shave den! I've thought about getting a shaving mirror but never thought about the water affecting my shave. I suppose it makes sense given hardness of water and lathering.

Arko really is amazing. It's cheap especially if purchased in bulk, has great slickness, and lathers well. Some may not like the smell. I was pretty neutral about the smell at first but now I've come to really enjoy it. I reach for Arko every day now, over Speick, TOBS, Muhle, and Proraso.

Don't want to carry off topic too much here, but I'll give a short reply. I'm an old guy (58) with excellent far vision but poor and getting poorer near vision, especially in suboptimal lighting. I commute most weeks to an out-of-state job. I use a 7x mirror attached by suction cups to the regular over-sink mirror in both "shaving dens". The lighting is better at home than in the apartment. The water in the apartment is MUCH harder (or something) than at my home, and it significantly affects lather and shaving. I definitely notice differences in water hardness when traveling. It's probably exacerbated by the fact I use MWF. I used distilled water in the apartment for a while but have fallen out of the habit recently. What I've found is that in crappy conditions (light, water, short time, etc.) when I really don't want to self-mutilate, I'm best off using something like my '58 TV Special or even a Fat-handled Tech. At home my current daily razor is an open-comb #88.

I picked up some of that Arko aftershave balm when I was in Istanbul and I really like it.

No problem at all :) Made a small pack to pipskicks.

The main offer still stands with same items.
