Default Mayweather vs Cotto/Alvarez vs Mosley. Your picks?

    Mine are:

    Mayweather by decision. No KO

Alvarez by KO. Probably in the later rounds (the 8th or later)

Alvarez has really impressed me so far in his career. I definitely agree on the KO.

I'd love to see Cotto make Mayweather eat canvas. I just don't like anything about Pretty Boy Floyd the person, but he has some unbelievable god given skills and I think he'll probably walk out with a unanimous decision. He's not going to trade blows with Cotto so he'll run and back pedal and out point him. I suspect it'll be a frustrating fight to watch. Speaking of frustrating fights...anyone watch that Bernard Hopkins fight the other night? Whew. Ugly.

From what I've seen of Alvarez...wow. He's a pretty exciting fighter and he's not afraid to pound away. I fear for Sugar Shane in general. He's tough to watch when he's addressing the media as he's got that punch drunk, getting harder to understand thing going on. Plus, he's looked really washed up in his last however many fights since he surprised everyone and walloped Antonio Margarito, what four years ago?

I've long like Mosely. He's always had a hard head and a strong chin. He's always been good defending and countering, and you can't underestimate the cunning and wily nature of old boxers. Still, I think Alvarez sits him down in five or six. Hopefully Mosely retires before he rattles his CPU too many more times.

    Jonathan,
I saw that Bhop fight and you are right; ugly as sin. I also was in the audience at the Rios-Abril fight. All there is to say about many recent bouts is "what happened to the rule against holding in professional boxing". Would love a panel of refs to spend an hour and explain why more fighters aren't getting points deducted.

I also think Mayweather will pull out a decision, I don't know about the other bout.

I don't know him, of course, but Floyd Mayweather seems like a genuinely awful human being and I'd like to see him get clobbered.

I don't know him either, but one of my customers used to play basketball with him and some others when he lived in Vegas. Says he's a genuinely nice guy. I think the persona you see is a carefully crafted act (mostly) to drive ticket sales.

On the other hand, he did hit a woman and is going to jail for it.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't jump to conclusions, but, I mean...

In 2002, Mayweather was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of misdemeanor battery. He received a 6 month suspended sentence, 2 days of house arrest and was ordered to perform 48 hours of community service.[136] In 2004, he was given a one year suspended jail sentence, ordered to undergo counseling for "impulse control" and pay a $1000 fine or perform 100 hours of community service after being convicted of two counts of misdemeanor battery against two women.[137] In 2005, Mayweather pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge after kicking a bouncer and received a 90 day suspended jail sentence.[138]

On September 9, 2010, it was reported that Mayweather was being sought by police for questioning after his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, filed a domestic battery report against him. Harris has accused Mayweather of battery in the past, but those charges were later dropped in July 2005 after Harris testified that she had lied and that Mayweather had not, in fact, assaulted her.[139] Mayweather was taken into custody on September 10, 2010, but was released after posting $3000 bail. Initially, Mayweather was charged with felony theft stemming from the disappearance of Harris's iPhone, but on September 16, 2010, two felony coercion charges and one felony robbery charge were added to the case, along with one misdemeanor domestic battery charge and three misdemeanor harassment charges.

On December 21, 2011, a judge sentenced Mayweather to serve 90 days in the county jail for battery upon his ex-girlfriend in September 2010. Mayweather reached a deal with prosecutors in which he pled guilty to misdemeanor battery in exchange for prosecutors dropping the felony battery charge. Mayweather also pled no contest to two counts of misdemeanor harrasment which stemmed from Mayweather threatening to beat his kids. In addition to the sentence of 90 days in the county jail, Mayweather was ordered to complete 100 hours community service, a 12-month domestic violence program, and pay a fine of $2,500.
    Maybe he's still finding himself.

    Anyway, that's enough of THAT.

Heh, big surprise that Alvarez has mostly been handling his business so far (end of round 4) but has a cut over the left eye from an 'accidental' headbutt.

Ever notice how good veteran boxers are at cutting their younger opponents with accidental headbutts?

Just finished watching all the fights with my neighbor. When Mosley headbutted Alvarez, I told him it was intentional. In the slo mo replay, it still looked intentional to me, but he disagreed.

The big surprise of the night was Mosley's resilience. It's still hard to believe he took all those power punches.

I agree that the headbutt wasn't intentional in the spur of the moment. I was just pointing out how crafty, seasoned boxers are really good at finding ways to get head contact...especially when they're getting out punched. Even if the guy doesn't bleed, the repeated knocks on the skull are a psychological hurdle. If Dawson hadn't had such a great cut man in his corner last week Hopkins nasty butt could have caused that fight to be stopped due to the cut. He wouldn't have won, but he'd have had a shot at a rematch and avoided the whooping Dawson was putting on him.

Holyfield was a master of the 'unintentional' headbutt...we all remember the Tyson fight, but also remember Hasim Rahman (sp?)? Holyfield's butt made it look like HR was growing a potato from his forehead.

Mosley looked game and I give him credit. He's always been tough and good at taking punishment. Hope he calls it a career now.

I was getting excited for a while there when Cotto seemed to be ahead in points for a couple of rounds. Good fight.
