Is this a weird obsession?

Like many here, The Nib has served for me as a gateway to an all new hobby. I'm really grateful to have pen Jedis like Brian, Doug and so many others here to make this an easy pool to dip a toe in. The pens are great, but I'm not a collector, just a user. I love paper, but don't write all that much. Love the inks, but my preference tends toward conventional blues and blacks (and shades similar to them...a big fan of Noodler's Purple Heart).

The thing that really borders on obsession, though, is nibs. I first caught the bug when I swapped a medium in for a fine nib in my Safari. Then Suzuki started the thread about the Triumph nib. I then found myself preferring italic nibs over the conventional ones. Is this like having Blade Acquisition Disorder? Is there something wrong with me????????

Fountains were things I threw pennies in, or spewed melted chocolate.

Just wait until you dip your toe into the pool of grinding your own nibs into italics. I have a bunch of nibs that I got from Indy Pen Dance along with their micromesh sanding sheet set -- not that I'm trying to enable you or anything...

I don't actually have a nib AD, as you describe it, but I can understand having one. The most important thing for me is how a pen writes, but fountain pen nibs are also esthetically pleasing after all these years of ballpoints and rollerballs. The differences in designs and performance are interesting. If I could find a vintage gold flex nib that would fit any of my current pens, I might get it, but it would probably cost more than I would pay.

I think that a "normal" outsider, stumbling across this forum and the shaving ones would think that there is something wrong with all of us.

That just depends on your definition of normal. Personally I don't there's anything wrong with any of us.

Well, I have used a Noodler's piston fill flex nib, and, um, hated it. The pen that is, which leaked and performed overall like a POS. No more Noodler's pens for me.

I did just take delivery, however, of a Lamy Al-star with 1.1 mm italic nib. , indeed.
