I only surf the net at home on my 1.5 year old cheap self built PC, which is an Athlon II X3 3.2GHz unlocked to X4 and OC'd to 4GHz with 12GB 1600 DDR3 and a Radeon 5770 1GB DDR5. I do a moderate amount of gaming and A/V editing and encoding, hence the extra ram and video card and I've been thinking of upgrading to a Phenom II in the near future as the Athlon's tiny cache is a bit limiting. I'm not a particularly big fan of mobile devices, I'll go online with my phone once in a while to check weather alerts and stuff when we're having severe weather and tornado warnings but that's about it.

    Intel i7 2600. Gigabyte motherboard. 16Gig ram. W7. 240G SSD. 9800GTX Foxfire.

Nobody is listing the browser. To me that is as important as the hardware.

Indeed..not possible to have too little RAM, especially if you using virtualization (vmWare, Virtualbox, etc), as I often do for various reasons.

To the OP, you must be using your phone with all of those "U" 's there ;) . That or you're a 20-something and just talk on the Internet that way (which is fine...I'm just messing with you).

Even at those hard drive transfer rates, memory access is still well over an order of magnitude faster.

32G isn't even that much these days, especially since RAM is currently absolutely dirt-cheap.

Old Lenovo Laptop/Tablet, running LINUX (Ubuntu). I was frustrated with Microsoft Vista, so I started learning LINUX. I wish I would have done this sooner.

Linux is very user friendly, it's just selective about it's friends :)

Great avatar. I'm still a novice to Linux (2years), but I haven't had any problems. My computer runs faster and cooler. The only real issue has been ITunes, and its not that big a deal for me. I'm analog when it comes to listening to music (Vinyl and a turntable).

Digital/Analog mix here... Digital source, but it pipes through an old 5 watt per channel tube amp section stripped from a reel to reel tape deck, before hitting the (Tandy Mach-1) speakers. :) (Yes, I burned out 1 cheap $10 "MP3 player" trying to figure out where the audio output needed to be wired into the tubes... I've had to replace the rectifier tube and the 2 finals but it's incredibly quiet and haven't had to replace capacitors.)

On a side-note, getting a new 50Mb down/5Mb upload internet connection tomorrow morning! (Up for my current 20Mb down/2Mb up) A plus is that the new DOCSIS 3.0 standard with the 4 channel combining technology should keep my download speeds up to a decent level even when doing some hefty uploads!

Odd, I was just thinking this weekend that I wished I had faster internet as I was waiting for a 3.7GB download to complete.. The cable company called today trying to sell cable TV and phone service, I said no thanks and the new sales person said "How about faster internet?" I said I think I've already got your fastest 20Mb connection... He took a couple minutes to check and said they had just gone live with 50Mb in this area Saturday... I guess I'm gonna be their guinea pig for the 50Mb... I know, from talking to the cable guy who was here to fix a wiring problem at the pole a couple months ago, I'm one of only two locations in town who even had the 20 Mb connection 2 months ago... My home, and one business in town (who is a client - I should have gotten a commission since I'm the one who "sold" it to them.)

I am currently on a desktop, though I couldn't tell you the specs. Sadly, I have been in IT my whole life but don't like dealing with hardware. I even built it and can't remember what's in there. I did break down and buy myself my first-ever new monitor last Black Friday. 23" Acer. Gorgeous and productive.

I did come home with one of those 1U servers like Turtle has tonight. I am not sure what I'm going to do with it as when I envisioned a rack-mount setup in my basement, it was small and on the wall for the communications/network equipment. I may have to break down and buy my buddy's rack. I plan to run a media center server on it along with hosting some web sites for me to play around with development. Maybe a bittorrent server, too.
