Default WHAT are U surfing with

Hope all is well with U and your families. Just wondering... what are U surfing on? In other words... what are U on as U are visiting the B&B.

I'll start: I am surfing the B&B using my desk top computer. So... how 'bout U? Are U surfing on a desktop computer? laptop? tablet? or cell phone? What's your story?

I usually check in on my Droid cell phone, but use a desktop computer when I can.

I checked laptop but its really a netbook. Really handy for walking around the house with. I wish Tablets had been as cheap when I bought this as I probably would have gone that route.

Unfortunately, all of the above is not an option. Laptop at work, Tablet at home, Phone everywhere else. Don't have a desktop any more, but if I did, would use that too!

Well dang! I can't select all the answers.

Yes, that includes the tin cans and string since somebody changed the poll after I posted this.

No netbook option. This under powered device is not a laptop, even though it is more powerful than previous laptops I have had.

It is an EEE 1000, solid state drives, running Ubuntu because windows require too much storage for the measly 8 gig of drive space. Even Ubuntu has a lot of bloat when crammed into this small of a space!

All the above, but I selected desktop, since that is what I'm on at the moment.

    PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!

Every time the system can pull up a disk read/write from RAM instead of going to the drives, you get increased performance. Althoug with with 10 15K SCSI or SAS drives in a raid 5 array, the disk performance is going to be about 13 to 14 X faster than in your average home computer (After taking into account the MD5 generation & striping over-head of the RAID 5 array controller.) Even at those hard drive transfer rates, memory access is still well over an order of magnitude faster.

32G isn't even that much these days, especially since RAM is currently absolutely dirt-cheap.

There are 8 cores so there is only 4 gig per core. Motherboard is SuperMicro.

I do a lot of heavy CPU and drive stuff with my business. That system provides enough horsepower... for now anyway.

Drive set up for me is 3 physical drives C:\ D:\ E:\

C:\ is a raid 0 PCIe card based SSD array of two 55 gig drives giving me 100 gig on drive C:\ Being bus based (It's an SSD PCIe card) and SSD and raid 0 (striped) it is as fast as it gets (SSD = Solid State Drive). Cold boot to log in prompt is just a matter of seconds. Software starts almost instantly even heavy stuff like Adobe products.

Drives D:\ and E:\ are independent raid 5 arrays made up of 5 drives each in hot swap trays. Seagate scsi-320 Cheetah drives spinning at 15,000 rpm. The drives and the controller card are heavily cached so they are rather fast "spinning disk" storage systems.

    That is just my workstation.

This is my backup and storage server. 1U supermicro headless server, four Seagate 1 TB ES drives in a raid 10 array (striped and mirrored), dual xeon also but only 8 gig of ram as it is a file/backup server not a graphic heavy work station. AND YES, that is dual/redundant power supplies in the box, you are not seeing things.
