Default The Loss of a True B&B Gentleman...and Fountain Pen Lover: Sparafucile

I posted this in the Barbershop, but as The Nib is where Sparafucile spent most of his time I thought I would post it here too.

    --------

This may have been posted elsewhere on B&B, but today I discovered that one of our own - Serge Dasara AKA Sparafucile - passed away on April 21st from complications related to heart surgery. Serge and I had been corresponding fairly often over the last couple months and, while clearly a private man, he shared that he was having open heart surgery at the beginning of April. Serge was a frequent visitor to B&B's The Nib, and told me he was going to treat himself to a Nakaya pen after he had been discharged. (He said he had been eyeing these pens for years, but could never justify the expense.) I sent him a couple bottles of Pilot Iroshuzuki inks at the rehab facility - something else he would not splurge on - so he would have something nice to use upon discharge, yet he never got the opportunity.

After Serge's surgery he was admitted to a rehab facility where he was expected to recuperate for approximately a month. After a couple weeks at the rehab facility he shared that he was experiencing shortness of breath, and one of his surgeons finally ordered an x-ray that showed his lungs were full of fluid. Serge was readmitted to the hospital the weekend of April 19th and it was the last time I spoke with him. I have been trying to reach him on-and-off since, and only today did the staff at the rehab facility give me the sense that things had taken a turn for the worse.

    Rest in peace, my friend.

Oh man, that is awful news. He did me a favor once, behind the scenes, for no particular reason other than wanting to be helpful. Good guy.
    RIP, Sparafucile.

I never had the pleasure of dealing with him. Sounds like a great guy -- always saddens me when we lose a pen person and a gentleman. Rest in peace, Serge.

I am very sorry to hear this! Serge was one of my customers, and we spoke a few times over the phone. He was a very nice person and speaking with him always was a pleasure. RIP Serge!

Serge, you are in a better place now. I hope his version of heaven is filled with cats, pens, inks and his loved ones.

Thank you for sharing this. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Serge, but it surely a loss for our community. May he rest in peace.

Thank you for taking the time to remember, and to help us all remember, your fallen friend. If heaven is anything like I'm hoping, there'll be a Nakaya waiting for him ...
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.
