Cool DR Harris after shave splash - looking for buying advice :)

I'm contemplating buying all 4 DR HARRIS after shave lotions (US'ers call lotion for Splash and rightfully so, but in Europe an AS Lotion is a thin fluid splash and what US'ers call AS Lotion we call AS Balm, go figure )

So looking to buy all 4 of the DR Harris after shave splashes - Arlington, Marlborough, Bay Rum and Sandalwood.

I had a small sample bottle of all 4, but was later told they were older samples that may have gone 'bad'

So can anyone confirm if I'm correct in my description of these after shaves, then please do so - thanks

Please pay attention to scent longevity as I'm a base-noter with more than 260 bottles EDT/Perfume in my collection and I use an after shave for its healing and soothing properties, not so much for the scent; but a nice scent in my after shave is NEVER EVER a bad thing. The advantage of having 260+ bottles of EDT in my collection is that I can always find a frag that mixes well with my after shave du jour.

I already own a number of preferred after shave balms and splashes such as Cilique Post Shave Healer, Proraso cutting edge razor burn relief, Proraso cutting edge after shave balm in tube, Proraso classic after shave splash, Proraso classic after shave liquid balm, Musgo Real after shave balm, Aramis lab series after shave balm tube, Speick after shave splash and Mühle/Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera after shave lotion, so I know my quality stuff ;)

Arlington AS Splash - like the shaving cream I get a combo of citrus, smokey fern and an incense like mid note. The scent lasts no more than 1-2 hours.

Marlborough AS Splash - like the shaving cream I get smokey dusty cedar and sandalwood. Very nice winter scented after shave splash. The scent lasts for 2-3 hours.

Bay Rum - I lost this bottle, when moving - can anyone describe the scent, how long the scent lasts and how good the after shave is ?

Sandalwood - strong stuff, sandalwood mixed with anise - very potent stuff which on me lasted 6-8 hours, which definitely interfered with my Eau de toilette fragrance du jour. Not sure I'll repurchase because of this, but still what a great after shave - in fact I must repurchase this potent juice

I will buy directly from DR Harris own web shop because I want to get the 150 ml versions. Can anyone recommend cheaper online webshos that sell the 150 ml larger bottles at better prices than £29.95 then I'll thank you personally

Love the bottle design of these After Shaves Splashes too - classic quality juice bottled:

I can only tell you that I went to DR Harris with a mate of mine. We smelled all the AS and both agreed that Marlborough had the best smell. I love the stuff You won't find it cheaper I don't think. That is around the price I paid at the DR Harris store itself.

If I remember correctly the Marlborough after shave is a fresher take on the very dark smoky woody Marlborough shaving cream, which I also own and enjoy highly

You are forgetting PINK! Get the pink.

Bay Rum is nice ... on the sweet side ... and does not last long 1-2 hours. It's probably my favorite Bay Rum, and that's because it is not a hard core bay rum.

They class up a shave den ...

Yeahhh forgot about the Pink - haven't tried that, is it floral or rose like in scent ?

    Hi there fellow basenoter!

Personally I wouldn't get Harris aftershaves for what they do to your skin. Pink is an exception. Compared to for example SMN aftershaves, Harris' offerings are quite weak on this front. Atleast on my skin. Sandalwood I might get at some point; it has rather impressive scent, it's kind of like an EdT that one can splash after shave. I would also find it difficult - and futile - to combine it with a fragrance.

What I'm also trying to say is... that as a fellow basenoter and fragrance connoisseur I want aftershave to be very fleeting or long lasting and excellent. In between is the worst - that's Marborough and Arlington. Great for many, not so much for a guy with 230 bottles of perfume.

Connaught shaving is priced the same but has better shipping prices (at least to the US). And this was the last I checked.

Your assessment of Sandalwood should reflect that one uses it INSTEAD of a cologne du jour! I consider it dual purpose; aftershave and cologne. Great for trips; only have to pack one bottle!

Seems in line with my own experiences with these 3. As stated above, I wouldn't recommend attempting to use sandalwood with an EDT.

The only one that I have tried is the Sandalwood. It's currently my everyday lotion. It's very strong and lasts forever. My wife comments how strong the scent is when I finish shaving. I think the strength is a little too much for me. I really like the AS but probably going to get the Arlington, which seems more like my style.
I do love this AS from a performance perspective. It really soothes my skin and has it feeling great after a shave. I use Castle Forbes Lavender balm first and after it absorbs I splash with D.R. Harris. The Arlington soap and lotion is on my short list of items to buy as well as Tabac.

Pink is a very subtle light ROSE..... Very interesting juice.

Other than that one, I've only used the Marlborough.... NICE cedar

Ended up skipping all the After Shave frags, simply too distracting for my scent of the day EDT - so just bought 2 100 ml bottles of the mild rose scented DR Harris Pink Splash - good stuff. Follow up with Mühle Aloe Vera and I'm done. The scent goes away in 20-30 minutes and I can apply my EDT.

    Good decision, I think.

Hey I just posted in the forums. I have been having a love affair with my Harris Arlington soap for the last few months (new to straight razor shave). I have been running with Art of Shaving Sandalwood/Unscented and those both mix well with the Arlington. But I lovethe Arlington and I wanted that aroma to last longer and remain stronger. So I figured I'd buy the Arlington aftershave milk. It smells like my grandmother. Yuck! I am returning it, but was wondering if the Splash aroma is more akin to the soap, of if it also smells like the milk. My alternative is Gentlemen's Refinery I have been hearing a lot about. At $35+ a bottle, I cannot afford to test too many variations. Thanks.

I've never tried the Arlington Milk or any of the Harris Milk's but the Arlington splash does indeed smell like the soap and shaving cream.

So the Harris Arlington aftershave splash smells like the soap disk and nothing like the milk? I just want to make sure before I drop another $35 on something I won't use. The milk smells likes roses.

    Good evening Claus my friend,
Your description of the Harris Arlington Splash is spot on, IMO. Thats the only one I've used. Say,you might give the Arlington aftershave milk a try. I Think its excellent .Its soothing and smells much like the shave cream. Hope this helps you decide.

Haven't used the milk but the AS smelled like the soap to me.

I use AoS Sandalwood soap with DRH Sandalwood AS. They're not the same scent at all but work well enough. Actually, I always use the DRH Sandalwood AS.
