Any Vegan Shavers out there?

I'm using this now, the Wintergreen flavor. Does your toothpaste contain "Neem?" I'm not sure what it is, but I've seen it on a lot of oral-hygience products.

Another great toothpaste I had from years ago was something from India that followed the Ayurvedic principles. I don't remember the name of it, but if I ever come across it again I will buy up a case of it.

Where do you get your Desert Essence from? Is there an online source? I got mine when I was on a trip to Baltimore, at a little kiosk in Cross Street Market that carries a lot of obscure and relatively unknown personal care items. They also are the only source I have for Dettol Hand Soap, which is great to keep at the kitchen sink. Talk about a HARD-milled soap ... one bar usually lasts me a year or more.

I'm glad to see someone else using this (safe) product. None of the other flavors contain Neem. Only Wintergreen has it. I bought my toothpaste from Amazon, but you can always buy it direct from the Desert Essence website.

I also did a search on Amazon for that Dettol soap you're talking about, and there's lots of listings for it. Personally I stay away from antibacterial products, but to each his own.

I am a lacto-vegetarian (not vegan; I loves me some cheese) and have been for 29 years. But I wear leather shoes and belts. I've danced the little ethical dance around this conflict for awhile, and I'm discovering that my newly-kindled interest in DE wetshaving is raising the old questions again.

For example, when I got started a few weeks ago, I got the cheapie VdH badger brush at Target, and I just ordered a Semogue 1305 from WCS. But I have about decided to avoid the tallow soap I also just bought (MWF)--which will probably result in my first PIF sometime this next week. (I'll probably try a horsehair brush at some point soon as well.)

Above all, I appreciate knowing that this community allows this discussion of veganism without any hint of snideness or judgment. This is really an excellent online community.

People have as much right to prefer using non-animal products free of harassment as folks who use animal products have a right to use them without harassment.
I think there's a lot of ground here where we can all try to be helpful to one another despite our differences of opinion on these topics.

This is what matters. Though I am not personally vegan, it's not my business who chooses to be. They grow facial hair, too, right? From what I have seen in my short time here is that people generally respect one another. For instance, I neither smoke or drink, but I don't go to those forums and make a nuisance of myself. If I see a thread that interests me, I'll read it, and occasionally chime in. If I disagree, I may offer my viewpoint. Since I have always been treated courteously here, I try to do the same in kind.

I am not a vegan but any vegans out there using straights may want to check Tony Miller's web site. www.thewellshavedgentleman.com. Tony is considered one of the premier strop makers in the country. The only problem is that he's usually backed up and it can take a long time just to get on his waiting list. I was just at his website to check for updates on his production and read that for the month of September he's doing a run of his vegan strops.

Realize this thread is a bit old bnow but I wanted to bump it as I just signed up here and it's relevant to my interests. Been vegan for a long time and the lack of vegan options is initially what turned me off getting more into classic shaving. A few thoughts on some of the products I've tried.

Soap: I have a tin of the Ethically Engineered Razor's Edge soap. At first I wasn't too impressed, but now I realize that I just wasn't used to using soaps and was getting the lathering process all wrong. It took me a while to get a semi decent lather which actually worked ok, but the lathering guide on this site really set me straight after I read it. Even though I just got into DE shaving this week, I've used this stuff with my Mach 3 up to this point and I'm pretty pleased with it. Granted it's the only soap I've ever used so I don't have a huge frame of reference. I'll probably try something else out when I'm done this tin to compare. It's lasted me quite some time and wasn't particularly expensive at an all vegan shop around here, so the value is killer.

Brush: I use the Omega synthetic brush. Again, I have little frame of reference but now that I have my lather game up to snuff I'm pretty pleased with it. Aesthetically speaking it's pretty lackluster, but it holds a lot of lather and I"m pleased with how it applies it. I've read good things about the Jack Black brush, and aesthetically it looks great, but I can't bring myself to drop $85 on a brush when my Omega is working just fine.

Other: I've used a bunch of Jack Black products here and there. An ex girlfriend got a bunch of samples a year or so ago and gave them to me, and since then I've purchased the Post Shave Cooling Gel and the Supreme Cream Triple Cushion Shave Lather. The gel feels great post shave. I'm not a huge fan of the scent. It's certainly not bad but it's just kind of whatever. I've never been a cologne guy, so I kind of like having a bit of scent to my aftershave. Not a huge deal though. The other thing that I've noticed is that it leaves my face a bit sticky and shiny. Not for too long, but it's a bit weird. All in all, these are minor complaints, because it's good at it's primary job of cooling and soothing my face. Especially appreciated as I'm just getting into the DE game. Haven't opened up the Supreme Cream yet, still plenty of the Razor's Edge left and I don't want to start switching things up until I have my DE technique more refined.

As mentioned in here earlier, a lot of Jack Black products are vegan, but not all of them. If you go to the website it will tell you which ones are which is a nice change of pace. As others seem to be weighing in on their feelings on it, my take on veganism is that I try to avoid any animal products at all: honey, lanolin, leather, wool, silk, etc. The rationale being that most of these industries treat animals pretty horribly, even the ones you would think wouldn't. I've compromised once or twice (try finding a decent suit without wool in it that's not a summer linen number) and I'm a big advocate of doing what you can in the world and what you're comfortable with. Having committed to the vegan thing is more frustrating to me personally on the fashion end of things than the food end. Looking good and avoiding leather and wool is a pain.

I received a mug of Napa shaving soap.Ingredients list is here http://www.napasoap.com/ingredient-listings/ (scroll down to see shaving soap ingredients). I'm no expert, but the list seems pretty clean to me. i must have the unscented. I smell nothing but soap.
I am using it now, have good days and bad, so I haven't quite got my touch with this soap yet.
I have no financial or other conflict of interest in recommending this soap.

yup, ingredients list looks good to me. Unless you're really picky about the palm oil (a lot of palm oil harvesting is detrimental to orangutan habitats so some really staunch vegans make sure it's ethically sourced). Personally I'm not quite that neurotic, so this stuff looks fine.
