I just got this and love it so far! a bit on the $$ side but i have reactions with other deodorants and wanted to try something new. well worth the money and smells great. miss paying 2-3$ but oh well i guess it clears up the idea that you get what you pay for...

Just bought a crystal for $6 from Whole Foods. The company is "Lafes" not sure if anyone has any experience with it. Just used it for the first time today and my pits feel pretty good. No itching or irritation. It's way too early but i like it so far. I will give it 2 months before I post my final judgement on it. I might have found something that works for me though!

Are there any suggestions or tips though on not breaking the stick?

It works very well... And a big tip here... Trim you arm pit hair back. No need to shave unless that's your thing but trim, rub wet alum block Im there, let air dry. Then be done or wash it off with witch hazel and air dry. I haven't used "deoderent " in prob 6 months since I read about this combo

I've been using 91% isopropyl alcohol for years. ethyl works too, when you can find it.

kills the bacteria and that's all that's necessary. i don't trust things that inhibit perspiration.

it does require refreshing on "heavy sweat" days, but is cheap, safe, clean, multi-purpose, non-stinky (scent it with essential oils if you like), hypo-allergenic, available everywhere, non-staining.

just don't get it mixed up with your witch hazel. no.

I'm one of those suckers that previously used a spray.
Rexona white mark control to be specific.

    Trimmed a few weeks ago.
Have noticed a difference in doing this alone.

Got a stick of Alum and even when vigorously exercising, it has passed the odour test.
I've also noted that I've not been leaving wet patches like I did before with the spray while working out.

Will continue to test this and if wetness is an issue, I'll try a Rexona clinical protection treatment and see how that goes in conjunction with the Alum stick.

Also, I use the stick for pits and face, yet give it a quick rinse between the two.
Considering it should be used wet, washing it will result in 3/10ths of a bee's bum hair being used and remove any bacteria on it.
Another tip, be VERY liberal with the sticks/blocks use and go around the pit, not just the centre for best results :)

It honestly is that much of a difference, that I'm unable to note any scent with my nose in my pit, nor have several females that I've asked for their opinion.

Yes, this comes female approved gentleman :D

Really liking the Lafes stone so far. Seems like I am actually sweating less. Weird?

I would agree, alum rock is one natural deodorant. In fact there are available deodorants in the market who go for natural use alum.

I picked up a bottle of Naturally Fresh Spray Mist (Pure Alum in spray form, no water, nothing added) and it works very well. $3.49 at Native Sun.

I read that a guy(sorry I don't know his username) uses an alum block and pours some witch hazel on it before applying to his underarms.
That seems like a great combination. Goodness of both!
I do not have witch hazel to actually comment on the combo myself.
But I am sure it'll work great!

It's interesting to read this thread as it's progressed. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on your experiences, BigBull.

I have a similar "problem" in that most store-bought deodorants will make me break out after a few days. The "old-school" Old Spice that's mostly alcohol (and smells like the aftershave) seems to be the best drugstore deodorant as far as comfort, but it's odor-prevention properties seem to be a bit lacking for me.

Recently I have been using Nancy Boy "Active" deodorant. Most of the time it works great, but there have been a few days recently when I've been able to overpower it. I've ordered some Speick and will give that a try, thanks for the suggestion.

I use the RazoRock alum block as an underarm aftershave, but it doesn't work for me as a deodorant. By about 10am I smell like I need a shower, and by 3pm I stink.

My pleasure. I think you'll like the Speick. It smells a little aromatherapy-ish but I've been using it for a lil longer than a month and I still think it smells better later in the day than when I put it on. Only problem is the stick doesn't seem to last that long for the amount you pay. I'll still continue using it. I've found I use it one day, some type of Alum the next, back to the Speick, back to the Alum...etc. Even my LOTH has said lately that whatever I'm doing must be working. That's a pretty strong endorsement imho.

I just used Speick Natural Deo for the first time (green and red NOT blue and red package) seems pretty good. Much different than my Tabac Deo but i think i smelled worse as the day went on with that. We will see how the Speick works out.

not really sure... green and red is Natural and blue and red is Men. We need someone to comment on the scent of the blue package. But there is no Aluminum salt in the natural.

Rock Deodorant (spray) made by Crystal. I may have mentioned it in this thread previously, but after extended use I can say that this stuff does a great job! I've been using all summer while working outside, exercising, etc and I have nothing but great things to say.
