    Default Paint (brand) suggestions

We are moving soon and painting a few rooms. One of them is PINK....

What kinds/brands of paint do you all suggest? I was thinking of Lowes vaspar HD that says it covers better than others but I have not used it before. I also leave near a homedepot and have sherman williams close by.

I dont mind using a primer if that would work better than one of these magic super covering all in one paints.

I dont mind spening a little extra if it is going to look better and work easier

I am not a fan of valspar,, Coverage is not what it should be. I love using Benjamen Moore and Ace brand paints.. I tried Behr paint from Home Depot.. I did not find that to be very good.. I love using Zinser 123 latex primer..

I like Sherwin Williams Duration line.

Not a fan of Valspar at all. Last wall I painted took too many coats to get it right. Thick on the roller, thin on the wall.

I've used Valspar. Took two coats.

When changing paint colors, it's best to use a true primer on the surface first. And if painting a kitchen or bath, it's best to wash the walls before applying any paint.

Consumer Reports had a test on paint in the past few months. Well worth checking out. There are differences even within brands of paint.

I've had excellent results with Behr paint and stain. Where my house is, the home owners association forbids having anything but natural wood siding, and I've used Behr stain on the outside since moving in. I do one side a year, and that way every 4 years my house is fully restained. It holds up very well.

Dutch Boy has done well for me. I used it for several jobs, and had good coverage..often a single coat w/ minor touchups. I like their paint container with the built-in pour spout and a screw on top.

Benjamin Moore (choice of most professionals) or Sherwin Wiliams. My experience with HD paint is that the coverage is not so good and it always needs two coats.

Benjamin Moore IMO has the best colors. I really like their historical collection. Also Sherwin Williams is good too. Consumer reports rates BEHR really high and said its a good deal for the price.

No paint covers like advertised. I always use Kilz Premium primer before I paint. My Walmart carries it for around $20. I just finished painting a bedroom where my wife had tested 10 different paint colors on the walls, including half a wall in a very dark blue. If I was moving, Kilz Premium and a coat of Behr or something from Home Depot would have been sufficient. Since we don't plan on moving, I did 1 coat of Kilz Premium and 2 coats of Benjamin Moore Regal Select. I hate to paint so when I do a room, it's got to last and look good for at least 10 years. If I'm painting a room that had wallpaper or a lot of spackle on the wall, I do a coat of Gardz before the primer to seal it.

BM paint prices vary. Regal Select retails for $50+, but the store I go to sells it for $38. I never had a paint from Home Depot or Lowes look good for than a couple of years so I always use BM or Sherwin Williams.

I like Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore and have had very good luck with them. My son is a big fan of Behr from HD and has good luck as well. From what I have seen, the primer/finish coat combinations are not worth the money because they require two coats anyway.

Like Valspar, hate Home Depot Behr, always find it too thin. Ben Moore is best or similar.

When it comes to the recent Consumer Reports rating, pay close attention to what type of paint within a brand is being rated. For instance, Benjamin Moore has a top rating for one paint, but another type of Benjamin Moore that they have is farther down the scale. It seems no one brand has consistent ratings for all of the types of paint they produce.

So if I read and understand your post correctly, you are moving soon and painting some of the rooms before you leave? If so, why would you care what type of paint to use (cheapest?). As I have done in rentals, is to leave it in primer. If I misinterpreted your first sentence, then I have had good luck with Benjamin Moore.

+1 on Benjamin Moore, used the Affinity grade on my last painting project, and the coverage was (IMHO) way better than any other brand I have used, including Pratt&Lambert, Behr etc. The color seemed to really "pop"

I used to work in a chemical plant that supplied materials for Sherwin Williams so I got their employee discount. It's the only paint I've used over the last twenty years and I'm very satisfied with it.
