Here is hoping you get Better soon Bud. I have dropped a razor more than once. Luckily I did not grab for it, and got my feet out of the way.
Hop back on when you are ready!

Just because it's sharp, does not mean it's smooth.
sorry to hear that. hope you recover soon.
Heal up fast and don't give up. its not like it was something really shaving related that caused you to hurt yourself, it was just an unfortunate instinctual response to dropping your razor. i have injured myself with knives pretty badly, and needed stitches (never surgery though) but i wouldn't be caught dead in the woods or the kitchen without a sharp knife. accidents lead us to more caution in our crafts and more respect for the tools we use.
plus, as someone said, girls like scars. my girlfriend is not so secretly hoping ill pick up a facial scar from straight shaving.

I like what Ouch said, "the safest place for a straight is against your face". Hope you heal up soon!

Thank you again, everyone, for all of the encouragement! I have a follow-up with the Doc on Friday, and with some luck, perhaps the cast will come off, or he'll switch me to a removable brace. If so, I'll be sure to post some pics of the wound! Thank you all for the support!
Best wishes for getting well. I dropped a straight once into my sink, while it was up pretty high by my face. I pulled my hands and arms back as quickly as I could. Luckily the blade didn't hit my arms and landed safely in the sink. It chipped by blade, but I was eventually able to hone it out. I sliced a little chunk of my right ring finger off, while polishing an old Boker. It mostly grew back, but the spot still feels weird. I will be much more careful while refursishing an old blade now.
After reading your story I will be much more careful of laying my blades on the sink countertop. Your story has probably saved a few folks here from some nasty cuts as well. Straights can be dangerours, but they still give the best shaves. See if you want to continue after you get well. Get well soon!!
Hello! My name is Chris.
It's a Jeep Thing. You wouldn't Understand. I shave therefore I am.....
Hang in there & I sincerely hope for a speedy recovery!
Don't be afraid of the straights though, bad things happens all the time.
Life kicks ya around & hurts you, not much we can do about it but to get up & fight back.
Can-can scratch patterns!
Let this also serve as a reminder to all. ALWAYS wrap a towel around your midsection after getting out of the shower and prior to beginning your shave.
I don't think I need to spell it out any clearer than that, do I?
One, two! One, two! and through and through...The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

BTW- has anybody bothered to ask exactly what kind of razor it was that was falling?
Gold Dollar? Or Zowada?

That's rough. Hopefully you'll make a speedy recovery. So what do you do now that life has kicked you in Coticules? The answer is- get back up.
Never tried a straight only de and se dont think i will now that sucks!!!
My girlfriend laughs at me because I always put my razor down on the counter as close to the wall as I can get it.
Think I might show her this thread.
Get better soon! I know someone who had their arm chewed up by chainsaw - suffered nerve damage in all fingers and recovered completely - you'll be fine!
best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Oh come on now, its just a little cut. The important thing is the razor okay? You have another hand, use the straight with that one while you recover.
I keep Christ in Christmas...........Founder of the COA
Best wishes for speedy recovery.
