Default Help with ID please :)

New guy here, kind of gone headlong into this whole vintage razor thing, and bought a group off of a well known auction site. I know what a few of the razors are (the reason for buying the set) but had hoped you guys could help a new guy out a bit!

I know what razors 1,2 and 4 are but sure could use some help with the rest! Thank you all for the wealth of information so far! I have learned tons through this site!

Smile Several are outside my own personal era

I haven't chosen to become well acquainted with razors sold before 1940, partly because that's when I was born, and partly because it just makes the hardware aspect of the hobby a little simpler for me.

The razor numbered "1" (looked like) a Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip *

The razor numbered "2" is an Adjustable 195, now referred to as a "Fat Boy"

3 is a Gillette plastic (I personally believe it was called a "Knack").

4 is a Gillette SS Red Tip

5 is some old shorty made as a travel shaver

The razor angled inward from the left is a Gillette TracII

    9 is Schick's Model "J" Injector Razor

    * NOTE: On the current display, with the current graphics card, the color of razor #1 looked like a dingy copper / brass color. My own Aristocrat is gloriously golden and obviously very special, at just a glance.

8 appears to be an OLD type ball end handle.

5 looks like the English variant of the travel Tech. Aluminum handle?

Thanks for the help so far guys! I'm having trouble identifying #8. I looked through the Mr. Razor site and it looks like nothing in the old ball type sets pictured there. The texture on the handle goes all the way to the ball, not like the others shown on the site. 7 & 9 still remain a mystery to me :)

Any chance you could post some closer up pics of just #8? Someone could have just cut down the original tube of a ball-end handle (possibly to remedy a crack that had started to open up), or it could be an Old Type clone. Hard to say for sure from so far away.

#7 looks German to me just from that wide shot. Has it got any markings on it at all?

From the flecks in the handle, I'm pretty sure #9 is a Schick Type K injector, AKA the Lady Eversharp.

#7 is not a Gillette product, but rather a clone stamped out long after the original patent expired. It could be either a wonderful shave or a bloodthirsty demon.

#9 is a Schick injector Ladies version . . . long pink handle solves that mystery!

#8 looks to be a ball-end Tech handle on an Old Type head. Some guys really like that combination, and years back many "old timers" preferred the Old Type head, buying a Tech just for the handle to replace the commonly cracked Old Type handle.

It looks like you scored well, and have a nice foundation to your collection!

#7 - Apollo Gerade possibly. hard to say, lots of razors with that pattern on the handle were made

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'll definitely get some better pictures once the razors are in my possession.

Smile When was a TracII not really the TracII that we know now?

I sort of remember Injectors with twin blades, but not NAMED TracII, not being functionally at all similar to the one(s) I used some in the way back, and still had one of, when I reformed from my cartridge-strayed ways a few months ago. What's the history on that oddity, Alex?

Ok finally got around to taking a few pics of the unknown razor here. No markings of any kind, but it sure is a good looking razor. Any ideas as to what it is? The handle seems to be aluminum. Lightweight and a magnet is not attracted to it.

Probably German, but without any maker's mark it is difficult to say. The handle decoration is reminiscent of the original German Yuma razor, since copied widely (by the Merkur 1904 and by modern Turkish Yuma, for example). It may be zinc-alloy or zamac rather than aluminum. If you can weigh the cap precisely that might help.

I like the looks of the "unknown razor" a lot. I think it is likely it will be a great shaver.

good haul. Lots of good stuff in that lot.

I'll weigh it when I get home. I have this particular razor in the never ending PIF with a new puck of Williams and a blade so if someone wants it go for it!

It weighs in at 18 grams if that helps. That was both piece of the cap.

My guess is zamak, then. Aluminum ought to be even lighter.
