Shaves great, yup a "silent killer," as Doc said.

Yeah, it does have a pretty fat bevel, which I noticed on a bunch of the wedges on the website when I was browsing. Don't know what the implications are-- are there any? Does it effect honing, stropping?

Anyway, I am going back and forth between this one and my whipped dog sight unseen, very different feels, for sure. I think I like them both. I had heard a wedge is easier to learn on, but I can't say as I have noticed a big difference in results, although they do feel very different.

Congratulations on your new razor! It is very handsome. I am also 12 shaves in with a sight unseen Whipped Dog, with my first post Whipped Dog SE on order. Funny, I've ordered a fine razor (a TI) mainly for aesthetics but I do not have confidence in my ability to strop it properly just yet, much less hone the dang thing! In any event, it is exciting to see someone else taking the step. Way to go!

No difference in honing or stropping, but honing does take longer given the amount of metal on the stone Just make sure you use tape uf it was previously honed with tape (I believe Edson dies use it)

The wide bevel is normal for wedges, some even have larger ones. Take a gander at one of mine.

Default Anxiously awaiting my Whipped Dog straight

So I got a pleasant surprise this week. My mom offered a small gift for me losing 100+ lbs over the past 7 months. She asked what I wanted and I immediately responded with "a straight razor!".

She was a little perplexed, but I showed her whippeddog.com and the sight unseen deal. She agreed and said she would let me know when it arrives.

Im really excited and can't wait to start learning how to use a straight. Although, my face having all these new curves, it should be interesting. Luckily, my goatee will help with some of it.

Congrats all around! That is a tremendous milestone. Speaking from experience, you will not be disappointed with the kit that Larry is sending. Be sure to post pics in the "Sight unseen" thread.

Congratulations on losing the weight! I debated for a while on what straight to start with and eventually decided on a Whipped Dog starter set and am really glad I did. Keep us posted on when it comes in and how the shave goes.

I also bought my first shave ready straight from Larry and man he puts a mean edge on a straight. Every now and then I still have with it to remind me of the humble beginning of straight razors

    Congrats on the weight loss!

Enjoy your razor - Larry's a great guy to do business with. The starter kit has everything you need to get started, and the hone job is excellent. Though I would recommend buying the extra poor-man's strop.

"I'm a very careful person - I'll never nick my strop up," you say. Yes, you will.

All it took was my wife asking me a question from the other room while I was stropping a new razor, and I forgot to turn the blade on the return stroke. One leather strop, sliced halfway through, and an opportunity to re-hone the edge.
