Im trying to sell 2 of my Imps now, to fund another W&B.......Im hoping to find another one like this, but in not as good shape, that I can use, without having to worry about the finish, etc...Funny thing is, Ill probably end up paying more for the "beater", if I find one at all

I would maybe have it appraised and have a pro give you advice on using it or not. It may not be as rare as some others but these W&B's bring some serious attention on the aution sites sometimes getting close to 100 bids.

Whatever you do good luck and enjoy!

I would definately hone & use it. When my friends ask, "so, you collect straight razors?" my response is always, "no, I USE straight razors."

Ok i just got home and I get to see the pics up close on the computer and I think this is the best large W&B I have seen. I doubt it has been used. It was probably in an air conditioned attic in a crate or some thing with no humidity.

Congrats on your find Chef. I don't know if I would hone it up right away because that might be more of a collector's item rather than a user.

Yeah, I wont be honing it up any time soon..however, if anyone knows where I can get the same model/type W&B, in average shaver condition, please let me know...

P.S. I used to live near you in Palm Beach Gardens ...back in the 90's

    Thanks

Hey my friend, weren't you just recently commenting to me how these used to be just tools that the owner would thoughtlessly scratch their name into? And now you're going to buy another of the same model just to keep this one pristine? :-)

Seriously, though, that's an amazing find and I'm uber glad for you. In your shoes, I'm not sure what I'd do. I found my prized Lincoln in similar circumstances - it looked kind of rusty and I think that dissuaded others. I didn't know myself, but I took a chance. But I must have tried that 30 other times and there were many dogs in there. You already hit the jackpot and searching for a repeat may be a challenge. But who knows? You seem to have the golden touch with NOS blades. I see a W&B binge coming on!

Yep!! An Imp Exodus, and W&B Invasion may be on its way!! Im not looking for a second Jackpot razor Ross, just a daily shaver in this same grind/shape/model....I think its possible to find one...Funny about NOS razors...I always set out to find my Imps in NOS, as Well as my Wester Bros De-Fi, because being new, I never knew what to look for in a blade, and was afraid to buy used. I figured NOS was safer...The one time I buy a blade, thinking its a bit rusty, and used, and in need of a little resto work, and I get this!!! The mother of all NOS razors..(at least for me it is)! I look forward to hearing about your India "I left my straights home, and have to make do with the local shave supplies" adventure......You should start a thread......knowing you, you already have......

But I guess it had just been sitting in optimal conditions, and no one had a chance to mess it up.

FWIW, I still haven't honed or shaved with it. I can't bring myself to do it. It's a sickness.
How do you have it stored? Oiled?

Very, very nice. Congrats. These razors can be found on ebay often, but very rare to be in NOS condition and you'll pay a pretty penny for it. You'll be able to find another one on ebay for sure but, as you point out, it will likely be more money.

The pics seem to show a satin finish, with a reflective but not mirror finish. Would you describe that as accurate? The reason I ask is that everybody always theorizes on vintage factory finishes.
    Great score.

Im having a friend who is a pro photog take proper/accurate photos of the finish , but this I just snapped with my phone. Its like a mirror finish but not quite as highly polished as some of the mirror finishes I see on restore photos...It has the vertical faint machining lines?, that you can see in the close up photos..Here is a shot of my watches reflection.. Its strange.. Head on its a mirror. From certain angles depending on how the light hits it, its more of a hazy satin..I think the machining lines and the hollow have something to do with that? If those are even machining lines, Im just guessing?

Anyway, I need to stop handling it, til I take photos of the finish for the restore guys. Im starting to put faint scratches in it just from wiping it down!LOL..
Im attaching the same photos from the 1st page so you can see the lines Im talking about.I think all of my razors have them..Is that just the nature of the steel or machining?
    Hope this helps..

They are normal marks left over from the grinding process. Bringing a razor to a proper mirror finish is probably another couple of steps and expense for the manufacturer. The finish on your razor is what I'd expect to see on NOS.
