Default My shaving soap ingredient(s) requirement

I have come to realize I really like shea butter, lanolin and tallow. So now my shaving soaps must have at least one of these ingredients for me to buy them (i.e. Pre de Provence, MWF, IK, DR Harris Arlington (though I'm not sold on this yet)).

Yeah, my main requirement is that it works - dense and slick. I'd agree with tallow or lanolin (I haven't tried a shea butter soap), but somehow La Toja does it with neither!

Just as a small FYI, palm oil, which is often used to replace tallow, has (almost) the same exact properties. The reason shaving soap reformulations turn out to be disasters 99% of the time is not because tallow is removed, but rather because the overall recipe is not correctly changed.

When discussing about shaving soaps the ingredients list is only one of the important things to be taken in consideration. We also have to consider the proportions of the ingredients, the time and temperature they are worked and cooked and, also, that "magic" touch that only the geat Master soap makers have. Martin de Candre, La Toja Manantiales/stick and the new to arrive RazoRock La Famiglia soaps contain no tallow, no lanolin and no shea butter. But they are some of the best performing shaving soaps in the World. IMHO.

Thats true too Marco. Honestly I've heard great things about La Toja and I will probably still try it in the future.

    My primary requirements are:

    1) it must work
    2) it must not be overpriced (no more than $8.00 for a standard puck)
    3) it must be easy to get
