Default Does your shave go downhill when you switch razors?

This morning I switched from my Progress to my Slim, I've been shaving with my Progress for about a month now. I can't believe how many spots I missed with the slim.

So I guess it'll take me a few days to get into the Slim grove and start getting good shaves.

Does this happen to you when you switch razors after using one for a long time?

Not downhill necessarily, but each razor tends to be a little different, so there is a slight "getting used to" period after every switch.

    Nope. I switch razors/blades/soap/cream daily.

On a couple of occasions I have shaved with more than one razor at the same time and not had any problems

I think that when you change to something that you've never used before that there is a very slight learning curve to it. Nothing drastic however, but it takes a shave or two to get used to it.

I never have that problem. On the other hand, I'm switching from one Super Speed to another.

sounds like switching from a dull straight to a freshly honed one...I used to never go past 3 DE shaves...anything more is just tug n pull

I was given a new razor to try over the weekend, not a vintage Gillette, and yea the shave went down hill. It's got a radically different blade angle so I'm going to have to hold it a little differently.

Sometimes it improves. I had that experience today. I went from a Slim which I have a more relaxed approach to a Gillette OLD OC razor in which I do a little more due diligence due to less familiarity. My shave improved.

Yep I find that when I took onm y Techs last week after a month and a half with the super adjustable, I had just a little in the way of burn. Again I used the GII a few weeks back and the first shave after that ended with a couple of weepers. I put it down to the new stuble having a different cut end angle and now your putting a blade with a different angle over them. Just my thoughts.

...and given that each razor may have as different 'blade gaps', lenght & weight, rightly so your razors would perform differently (to include no matter what blade
    you used).

For example, I use Merkur's 23C & 38C (with Shark SC blades), and according to our Wiki, http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Doubl...d_by_Blade_Gap both of my Merkurs have the same blade gap (I'd say fairly mild), but of course I only have to get used to the difference in weight.

Sure. The difference between the President I used yesterday and the Red tip today was noticeable in that I had less touch ups with the Red Tip by only couple of strokes. Then again there is such a thing as too mild of a razor such as a tech & stahly head whcih requirex ten passes and an equal amount of touch up to achieve bbs.

I rotate through my limited number of razors daily, I don't find any adverse affects. Actually things start going down hill when I change my brand of blade for the first shave

On my 14th birthday, I was gifted with three heirloom razors, plus one pristine, never used Aristocrat that my uncle received as a gift, and never had used. From the very beginning, I was experimenting with more than one razor. I chose the SE over the two "used" DEs, and continued preserving the beautiful Aristocrat, but on occasion, I did use whatever the nickel plated Gillette TTO was. But we're referring to long peach fuzz the first three years or so.

The whiskers gradually spread across my cheeks and chin, and crawled down toward my neck, changing from pale blond, originally, to a dark reddish brown. I bought an Injector, but I still occasionally shaved with other razors, and even an electric shaver. I don't remember any particular errors of technique among any changes from one to another, although the Injectors were very like a cartridge system, in that decent shaves were practically automatic in nature.

I did end up with three Gillette Adjustable razors, and do not remember the silver colored TTO well enough any more to be sure what it was. I went through a reformation last December, rejecting my Edge Gel and moving my Sensor out of first place among razors in use. I eventually joined B&B, and eventually wanted replacements for the missing Injector and SE. In the process of hunting down those, I've accidentally, sort of, acquired four more DEs.

Since getting a nice Injector and even nicer SE, I have played an eenie-meenie choosing game with myself; the SE gets the very best results of all, with the Injector doing as well or better than any DE. The regular length Super Adjustable is my favorite DE, although I did get an outstandingly good shave from a new to me Super speed Red Tip (bracketed by far more ordinary results before and after that one).

Do my experiences offer you any assistance with your question?

I alternate between a DE89 and various Techs. When I switch from the EJ to a Tech, I'm always (for some reason) expecting a shave that's a bit less close. But the Techs, which just feel less substantial in the hand, almost always give me just as good a shave as the EJ, and typically with no irritation. I wonder if my shave actually goes uphill when I switch because I'm more careful and thorough...
