    Default Lathering twice

Does anyone here lather up twice? That is, brush on a face full of lather, have a cup of tea, then brush on another coat of lather?

It's an idea I picked up from my father, most of whose shaving ideas were a bit whacky. But this one seems to have merit.

It appears the first coat deals with the beard, and allows that soapy water to really soak in. The second coat provides the wet, lubricating layer.

I use an R41 with either Astra SPs or Shark SCs, and this procedure permits me to zip the old beard with a lot more impunity than before. I get way fewer weepers around my chin swirlies.

FWIW, I use a thin coat of Noxzema as a pre-shave, another notion passed on from my dad.

Naturally, all that stuff dictates that one keep one's razor well rinsed--which is not a problem with an R41.

I dont myself but I have heard of many that do this. I may give it a try sometime. I do shower first and sometimes put conditioner on my face while I finish the shower and rinse it off before I get out

Yes, but rinse before relathering. Especially good if not 1st showering.

I don't rest up in the middle of a shave. What I do is, after the lather is prepared right, I go and have the first cig of the day. By the time I return, the lather's settled down eliminating any bubbles that might have been present. Sprinkle a bit of water in the bowl, couple of swirls and begin my shave.

I try to do it pretty often. It's probably the best preshave you can do. I shave in the shower, wash hair and face, lather up with a cream/soap I'm not wild about with a soft brush then finish my shower. Rinse off the first lather , relather with what I want to use and I'm good to go.

I do it if I have the time, but do a partial rinse before the second lather.

Can't wait to try this. I have slow facial hair growth so I have to wait another day or two before I can.

In an effort to use more product, and break in brushes, about half the time I'll whip up a batch of lather and let it sit on my face for 5 minutes while I get everything else ready and select my music. It's always a different soap than what I shave with, and I rinse it off before my shave lather goes on.

I lather up, then I throw my hot towel on, then I relather. Something I picked up from Hawleywoods barbershop. Makes my whiskers super soft.

I'll lather twice, but after the first pass I'll rinse really good. and then do another lather. I'll let that sit for a min. or two and then do my second pass. After I'm done I'll usually do a warm water pass to finish up. This routine works good for me.

I've done this before and had good results. I don't do it often as I'm so eager to feel the blade.

Yep, I do this most times that I shave. I tend to do that first coat of lather with a hand-lathering cream like Kiss My Face while I'm in the shower. It sits on my whiskers while conditioner sits in my hair and I finish up the rest of my shower. Then rinse the hair and face, get out of the shower and I'm ready to go!

I recently started using PREP pre-shave cream, and it seems to me that they do two different things, so I am still lathering up once to soften the whiskers. The PREP (or skin food, or preshave oil) seems to prep the skin in an analogous way.

Ah...I remember those first smoke of the days. Too bad they aren't good for you like Brussels sprouts :)
