    Default another hone ID?

i have bought this hone as turkish oil stone about 6 mounts ago.
since then i couldnt sharpen any kitchen knives with it.
today i test it on a straight razor which was already sharpened with coticule.
    but it improved the edge.
what possible kind of hone can it be?
    thanks.

I have no idea but it's a really nice looking stone. I'm curious to see what the experts think.

The slurry looks like the slurry from my turk, but it also looks similar to a thury. How hard is she?

surface is silky smooth. hardness is like my coti. it both works with thin oil and water. slurry becomes grey after some strokes. i have an other stone which is exactly a turkish oil stone. here is the pic of the two stones.

The stone looks very much like Thuringian to me so use a degreaser or soapy water and remove the oil before it soaks in. If you can add oil and it soaks in that would be my guess. If it is Thuringian just a light slurry and it will feel like your honing on a light weight oil.

What are the dimensions aswell and can I see both sides and bottom please? It would be nice if one side was lapped.

    I'd bet it's a Thuri.

it drinks neither oil nor water.

Just by the pics the only reason I have doubts of Thuringian is the shape of the stone. Its more consistent with say Charnley Forest or something of the nature. If you have someone that postage would not be expensive I would send it to them for comparison if you really want to know. If you have no intensions on selling it and like the finish I would call it "My favorite stone"

Thuringian doesn't drink water either so to speak but oil is residually present as a sweat for lack of better word if used on the stone.

(the seller used it with a very light oil.)
i understand that you dont think it is a turkish oil stone so do you think it is CF or thuringian?

They are completely different stones and if it was used with oil I would be less likely to think Thuringian. If you wish to send it to me and pay shipping back to you which is $16 I would be happy to look at it and try to tell you what it is better. There is probably someone closer who can help you just as well though. If I can help let me know.
