Default Move aside Triangular Slot: "1932" Canadian Tech

A while back I acquired a fat-handle Canadian Tech that has the "1932" inscription (it describes year of patent but the razor was available in the early 50's). I didn't use it because it appeared like your common fat handle Tech. Last night I decided to try it with a Personna Lab and was taken aback from it's aggressiveness and performance. Usually, the triangular-slot flat-bottom plate fat-tech (that's a mouth full) gets the distinction of the most aggressive Tech but I don't know if it was me but it was a different feel. I've used the tech/feather dozens or even 100's of times and this felt a little different.
Below, I will show you the bottom plate of ball end, S.American aluminum, triangular, and the Canadian Tech as comparison. The final pics show the similarity of the ball-end's bottom plate and 1932 plate but the last pic shows how different the blade gap appears. Weird.

Is it just me or does it look like the guard plate's been bent? Particularly in that first shot. The guard bars being bent under slightly would certainly account for why you'd be seeing more aggression out of it.

    Agree with Porter.

Now if you can just bend mine the same way that one is bent, that'd be great. k.thnx.bye ;-)

My OCD couldn't stand the crooked look of the safety bar. I bent it back in place and it still shaved the same. I think the bottom plate is bent inward exposing the blade a little more. This is a Tech with spunk.

It might be worth checking out a British Fat or Thin Handled Tech.

I've found them to be more aggressive than any of the US or Canadian Tech's I've owned.

I've tried the Canadian, 3-4 contract tech varieties, gold, nickel, triangular, oblong slot, ball-end, fat handle, aluminum, medium handle English, travel, and plastic handle tech.
The thin English handle is one of the one's I haven't tried and am curious to.

What you really want to find is a British NEW/Tech Hybrid (on the left in both of the photos below). It's about the only Tech I've found that isn't too mild for me, which makes sense since it's basically the exact same guard plate blank as the British long-comb NEW, but with gutter slots milled into it instead of a comb.

I'm off to the basement, going to put the '38 Tech in the table vice and "fix it."

If you look at the 3rd pic I posted, you'll notice that the Canadian bottom plate (right one) is "less wide" than the regular tech because it's bent inwards exposing the blade a little more.

I've been after a British hybrid Tech and British Service Set Tech for ages but have never been able to find one.

    The search continues ... :)
