Default Hello to all from central Iowa...

Hi all, I am not 100% new to wet shaving. I started a few years back with a set up from a vendor in the great northwest. It is a fairly nice starter kit based upon the Mach 3. Badger "greys" brush, chrome bowl and handle and a stand. I buy glycerin based soaps and the occasional cream from the same vendor. I finally decided the Mach 3 is just not working for me anymore. Too many ingrown hairs, expensive blades, etc. I decided to try the DE route. I found a S2 Super Speed at a local flea market. It cleaned up nicely and I have used it once loaded with a Dollar General made in Korea blade. I am awaiting delivery of an H2 Slim from the bay. I am hoping it is in good shape...... Anyway, I am looking forward to this journey and I appreciate the wealth of information on this site.

    Welcome to B&B.

    Map Your Face.

Read the Wiki for preparation techniques.

Get the hang of the SuperSpeed before using the Slim.

    Preparation is key.

Then, lather, shave WTG. No pressure and remember the angle.

    Rinse, lather, shave WTG.

    Rinse, lather, shave XTG.

    Rinse, lather, shave Reverse-XTG.

    No ATG for now.

Also you may want to get a Sampler Razor Blade Pack.

When you use the Slim start with a 1 or 2 setting then, go from there.

    Good Luck and report back.

Thanks for the advice. I am definitely researching a blade sampler pack. I am also looking into soaps. I am about due for a new puck. So many options, it's glorious. Who knew?

Hi Ollie! Welcome to B&B. You will find there is no shortage of advice here, especially on what shaving gear to buy.

If you are in Ames, you might want to check at the Groom Room to see if they have an upcoming shave clinic. I haven't been to it, but Troy tells me that he does the shaving in front of the group and the fee for the clinic gets you a nice starter set.

I work in the research park near the Ames airport. If you PM me I can maybe put together a small sampler of blades for you.

Welcome to B&B! Just wait to you start using soaps beyond those glycerin based ones. Tallow soaps blew my mind when I took that step!
