Dang it Mark! That Shavemac in full bloom just set off a ticking brush bomb that will go off in the near future. Thank you for enabling me just as I had finally exited a brush buying binge over the last few months.

And I'm quite hopeful that it'll be quite satisfying. And it'll even the count. I've got four Shavemacs, but only three M & Fs.
the L7 is my only M&F at the moment, but i LOVE it. it's 2 band hair, blonde badger, but i'm not sure if it's new batch, old batch, heritage...is there a way to tell by looking at it, and/or would Lee be able to look back at my order and tell me?

Bruce, can you compare it to the Simpson two band? We basically have the same brush, and I can say it is much softer than the Simpson 2-Bands I have tried.

So I'm pretty interested in one of these, however I have no idea about sizes, knots, bands, etc....I'm new. Lol Would Lee help me with this, or can I get some help from you guys?

If you're new and don't know what you like, it's going to be hard for anyone to make a good recommendation. What is your current brush? Then ask yourself the following questions:

    • What don't I like about my current brush?
    • What do I like about my current brush?
    • Do I wish the knot was smaller or larger?
    • Do I want a brush that has more stiffness to the hair or less?
    • Do I like soft tips or some scritch?

If you don't have a brush yet and are trying to get a custom brush made, then you should probably start with a good, solid-performing brush as your first brush. This way, you can develop preferences for your brushes and it will help you narrow down what you want in a brush.

There are a lot of good starting brushes that you can get for $50 or less.

Imho, it looks like Heritage hair. I have yet to see a L7 that doesn't have that type of hair. My last 4 M&F's all have Heritage. It makes for an excellent brush and unless specified otherwise that is what he is using lately. Nice brush. Best, Bradley

AABCDS: That's what I'm thinking too. I was initially going to go with a Simpson Duke 2 or X2L, so maybe I'll stick with that till I figure things out. Thanks

I've read that the Duke is a great brush. I've never had one as I prefer longer handles on my brushes. Another brand of brushes to take a look at is Thater. I held off getting one for a while but my first Thater, a 49125/0, really impressed me. It's the softest brush I'd tried yet. I now have five of them.

+1. Every other member could going to recommend a different brush for you. Even narrowing it down to one manufacturer is hard.

i'm going for 1 from each. i'm slowly getting there.

so far i've got a Thater, M&F and Semogue (a few boars) that i all love, but i still need to add a few more...Shavemac, Vie-Long, Simpson, Rod Neep, Semogue badger to name a few.

once i get 1 of each of the brands that i like, i'll start adding 2nd to my favorites.
