Luxury! Many a day in the long ago, I've had to get coffee from a vending machine. If you remembered to punch the sugar and cream buttons, you got a hot caffeine coffee flavored drink.

But this morning I'm drinking a PNG Baroida (SMs) that I heard a couple of snaps into 2nd. Hard to tell sometimes. I'm not getting much of a roast flavor. The trailing edge first cracks seemed to blend in with the leading edge second cracks.

It is hard for me to tell sometimes too, especially with my hood cranking over the stove and the noise of the roaster. Weather permitting, I like to roast on my deck, then I can really listen to the roast.

Enjoyed better coffee over the weekend, starting each day with Costa Rican La Armistal and ending it with a cup of Ethiopian Natural Sidamo decaf (I roasted it a bit too long but its still enjoyable). Saturday was pour over brewing method, Sunday was Presso brewing method.

El Pico made in a Black & Decker 4-cup drip pot. Served in my vintage 1960s Fire-King mugs, of course.

Ethiopia Limu Jimma - Alaga Sekala is still going, perhaps even peaked this morning. A thoroughly enjoyable coffee.

Had a bad coffee day Sunday. I was by myself and almost out of coffee, and tried to make an espresso (presso) with the hand grinder but it was on the wrong adjustment and grinding too fine. The Presso stalled and I attempted to salvage a 2nd shot attempt with same coffee after dumping 1/2 the grounds out, but the resulting Americano was not good.

In an attempt to minimize risk of fiddling with the hand grinder and getting the adjustment wrong, I ground my last 16 grams of beans with the electric grinder but forgot that the proper setting was one or two ticks away from finest (depending on dosage weight) instead of the finest setting which I used. So again I got a stalled shot and hastily repeated the exercise of removing the top layer of coffee grinds before making another attempt to extract caffeine....I was getting desperate.

Had to roast more coffee and drink it before the beans cooled off, but I finally did get a good cup on the 3rd attempt.

Funny, I had a bad coffee day on Saturday - I forgot to drink a cup in the morning! By the time I realized it, it was too late for me to drink it and I had the biggest headache that evening. I caught up on Sunday.

El Salvador Finca la Montanita Bourbon, just to City. Probably should have let it coast to City+, but it's not bad. A moderate acidity and I can agree with plum as a descriptor for the fruited component. Works best in full immersion brew methods, so my new Eva Solo and my Vac-Pot have done best. Also, these are both devices I use with "filters" that allow oils to pass (metal, cloth) so that's probably a part of it.

Enjoyed a few cups of Uganda Bugisu, brewed using an Aeropress w/paper filter, producing a very smooth and strong cup. But the same coffee was better when brewed with the Presso.
