Default Cream review: Axe Denim lather shaving cream

The local Indian grocery store has been carrying Axe shaving cream, and I finally decided to give it a try.

Yes, it's that "Axe." This is an Indian shaving cream though, courtesy of Hindustan Unilever Limited.

Ingredients: Water, Palmitic Acid, Lauric Acid, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Polyethylene Glycol, Laureth-23, Perfume, Sodium Laureth Sulfide, Cetyl Alcohol, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Menthol, CI 19140 [aka FD&C Yellow #5], Disodium EDTA, Hydroxy Toluene, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

I face lathered, using the small ice cream tasting spoon that I've been using for creams for a while, spread it on my face, and lathered up using my RV-restored Klenzo butterscotch.

The cream was actually pretty good, as I've come to expect from Indian creams. I like it better than Dettol. Nice and slick, protective, and I got a nice thick lather. Here is the brush after one pass of face lathering.

More than enough lather for my usual 2 passes+touchups.

It's actually been a while since I used a cream - like, last year sometime - but this was an easy product to use. Thumbs up there.

The scent is actually nice. It's a definite cologne scent, and while it has been a while since I used it, it reminds me a lot of T&H 1805, which would place it in the "aquatic" category. It's modern, not barbershop, and surprisingly I like the scent.

In India, this stuff is cheap as chips, but it's a bit hard to find elsewhere. But if you like aquatic colognes, it's worth a shot. If you see it on the shelf of your local Indian market, definitely take a whiff, and enjoy the performance.

    Fantastic! Nice review!

The lather on brush looks really good, and plenty of it. I can't wait for my son and I to try it! I may need to track down an Indian market and hope they have some if this stuff is as good as it sounds.

    Thanks insomniac!

I've been avoiding anything named 'Axe' for years, until I recently tried one of their new anti-dandruff shampoos (the menthol one). Despite the fact that there really isn't a menthol blast it's a damned good, refreshing shampoo with a rather unique and pleasant scent.

Based on these experiences I'd really like to give this cream a try some day...

The only Axe product I use is their "Vice" spray deodorant.
If I see this stuff anywhere I will buy a tube.

As long as it doesn't smell like a hamper full of week old underwear as its AS, I guess it should be ok.

It's on the strong side. I wouldn't say overpowering though.

Toluene? Why is paint thinner in shaving cream?

Those "cheap" creams from India and Turkey are surprisingly good.

It doesn't contain Toluene. It contains "Hydroxy Toluene" which acts as an antioxidant, aka a preservative.
