Default New Brush Arrived -Never used Ever-Ready Enjoy the pics

I don't know how I managed to get this for 12 dollars, but this is an unused Ever-Ready 500PBT in the original box. The box, as you can see from the pic is a little dirty, but otherwise in excellent shape. The brush is, as can also be seen in the pics, absolutely minty. Going to use it tonight and see what my father or grandfather might have felt the first time they shaved with a brush like this.

I guess there are still buys to be had on eBay though this brush is an exception to the rest of my recent experience. A lone exception.

Apologies for the poor pix. I am one of the world's worst photographers.

That's the original knot it came with. It's not a restore.

    Update:
So last night I took the brush to the Shave Den, aka the bathroom...toilet...water closet...restroom,etc. in order to introduce her to her new companions and then, once the door was closed, have the inaugural shave. Brought the iPad so we could listen to some groovin' music and even wore my favorite slippers so I wouldn't get distracted by cold toes. Brought out some Mama Bear's soap in an uber manly scent (pipe tobacco-no mercy this evening fellows) and had a dab of T&H Ultimate Comfort shave cream at the ready for some super lathering. My plan was to finish up with some classic Old Spice AS that I do not enjoy, but which I thought would bring back pleasant memories for her given her age.

And then I punked out. Couldn't do it. Caved.

It sounds crazy I know, but I couldn't bring myself to be her first shave. Couldn't, one might say, cause the first hair to be shed. This isn't a problem with new brushes or, puzzlingly, a very old Gillette I got that I'm nearly certain was unused as well. It had something to do with this brush. Just couldn't be the first. I laid her gently back into her original packaging and put her to bed for the evening and substituted her gentle charms with the familiar and congenial warmth of a Rodney Neep Dreadnought. A massively lush, obvious Silvertip who'd been around the block before coming to abide with me for a while. Had an metaphorical cigarette and then to bed.

Not sure what happens next. This reluctance may simply pass and then the inevitable happens, or I may let her go to a collector who specializes in the uninitiated brush. Hoping deeply for the former.

To use or not to use is a tough decision.

I had the chance to be the first to use a vintage Ever-Ready in Pure. It had a high loft, but also had a lot of backbone. However, it was a bit stiff and quite scritchy. I assume after more uses it would soften some.

It was a fun experience, but certainly not a brush I use on a regular basis.

I have one of those. It doesn't have that metal ring on it though. I swiped it from the old man's shaving den for my first real wet shave when I was teenager. He grew a beard somewhere around 1980 so he hasn't missed it. This was the only brush I used for years and I think it's a great brush but it needs a new knot now.

Would love to see a pic of it.

Absolutely the same brush. You can see where the ring used to be. How old do you think it is?

There are so many great brushes out there. Are you specifically looking for an unused vintage like this? If so, I'll PM you if I see one.

Actually, no. What you see is the seam between upper and lower halves. This style plastic handle always came in a 2 piece fusion- mostly seen in two opposing colors such as black/white, red/white, etc. They were rather common in the 60's and up. The ones with the ring at the seam is just a different variant.

Thanks for clearing that up. It makes sense. These handles had to be inj. molded and using the same mold to make different versions is the efficient thing to do.

Send your new brush to me. I'm such a good friend that I'll break it in for you to save you from making the decision yourself. You're welcome!
