Default Gillette Slim Adjustable - WOW

So I finally received a Gillette Slim that I purchased off of the Bay. I got it for $30 bucks and it had some brown spots on the case. Used a cape cod cloth and dish soap/toothbrush and that baby looks good as new. Shaved with it this morning and WOW you can't even feel anything. I didn't think it was shaving until I saw all of the hair in my sink. Started with a 6 WTG and then did a 4 ATG and got a DFS. I could not be happier and I think I am now going to explore some of the older models Gillette's out as well to see if any of them differ in shave quality.

    Congrats.

Yes, Slim is good but I find the Super Adjustable much smoother.

Congrats and the older Gillettes are very, very nice shavers, especially the open-combs ones.

I am going to take some pictures of the razor as well as my collection of stuff so far (3 months or so). I just ordered my dad a 1951 (his birthyear) SuperSpeed. I am going to clean it up forhim and give it to him as a gift.

I have a black Long-Handled adjustable....is this the same as a Slim Adjustable or Super Adjustable. It is my go-to razor of choice.

My father-in-law showed me the razor he's used forever.

    It is a Slim Adjustable!!

I gave him a real minty one and he was speechless. His looks like what you'd expect a razor to look like after daily use for decades. Frosted with calcium and soap scum with a locked up adjustment. Honestly, I doubt he swapped it out for the pristine one I gave him. That's just how he rolls.

I agree they are great starter razors and I also agree that Super Adjustables are just a 'hair' more user friendly.
The reason I say so, regarding SA being a little better, is because anyone who's used a cartridge or modern disposable is used to a longer handle.

I just recieved my '62 Slim. I took less than a week from US to the Netherlands (posted on monday 23rd). It looks in an even better shape than on the pictures on the ebay listing.

The build quality is just stunning. The plating is in another league compared to my '78 SS (which I truly love) and not the slightest rattle in the mechanism. It's hard to believe it's half a century old.

This thing was built, not made!

Can't wait to shave with it tomorrow! I think I will start on 5 WTG and might tune down to 4 for XTG and ATG passes.

Could anyone tell what setting is most similar to a black handle SS? My guess would be 3 or 4.

I had my first shave with the slim this morning. Started on 5, this is one smooth operator, even smoother than my blackhandle whilst a bit more efficient. It did not give me any reasons to tune down for XTG and ATG so I kept it there.
Very easy and comfortable DFS (BBS above the jawline) in 3 passes. I might start on 6 tomorrow.

The secuction of the NEW LC is a YMMV thing.
I have one and like it, not love it.
(I don't want this to turn into a slim vs NEW thread)

Congrats on joining the Slim Adjustable cult! Those old Gillette adjustables are worth their weight in gold, and I would be so bold as to say they beat the pants off the vast, vast majority of the razors available today. The Slim Adjustables and their chubbier brothers are really lifetime razors that cure RAD.

What is your honey badger drinkin' in your pic? The slim adjustable is a great razor as are the other adjustable razors. Now the search for what blade works best in it begins! :) I have pif'd several slims and given 3 away to new converts, and they were loved by all. I sold my Fatboy long ago, but hang on to my long handled super adjustable as it is my favorite of all the adjustables.

I have an H3 and it is without a doubt the razor I use most often. When I first got it I was constantly playing with the settings. These days I just leave it on 5. The profile of the head, the weight and balance, and the flexibility with the settings make this razor my favorite. It's not my birth year but it's damn close enough.
