Thanks Kent. It's a great looking strop and would be the one I want as far as aesthetics go.

So Kent, how's the strop? Have you had any private time with her yet?

I have the Fine Stars hanging in my stable tonight. It came regular mail today. And the post office apparently tried to deliver the two from rakuten around lunch today, also. I was having a nap and didn't hear her. That's delivery in three days from Tokyo. Outstanding service. I'll have the those two in my grubby paws tomorrow. The leather on the Fine Stars is flawless. And the second component is mmmmm wow.

It's very nice. Seems to really put a nice edge on my kamisori. I know we all say that leather works the same no matter the type, but running the blade on the suede and then Cordovan is really effective. I didn't like running the kamisori on linen, so the extra laps on suede might be the reason the edge feels better.

Overall I really like it. The Kanayama, TM latigo and TM horsehide is likely all I really need. My overflow may need to take a trip to the BST...

His tracking number was flawless here. and he shipped immediate. I ordered the one from a page that had english and i ordered the other that was only in japanese. That was hard. He combined the orders into one. I am guessing it wil be the transaction of the year. when I get the strops tomorrow I will post.

My 2196 arrived today. It's beautiful. The leather is sooooo soft and supple. Its only 2-3mm thick, but it still seems quite sturdy. It doesn't have much flex to it

The Gear.M.Co #6300 arrived today after the local post office finally got 'er done. Two days from Tokyo to Florida. Two days to go the last 5 miles. THe hardware is the same, It is embossed with a Llama Trademark. The Leather looks to be a little thicker than the Fine Stars but not by much. It was a linen second that is coarser then a TM. Having seen them side by side, I have to say that the Fine Stars was indeed an excellent value and recommendation especially when you consider the gorgeous suede second.

In other news Goober and Carroll Shelby died this week. A moment of silence please. And Now we take you back to golf.

I did. It arrived as well. nicely packed quick service. It's just like you said. The leather is a thinner than the FIne Stars and it has the same linen component as the 6300. It has the same Llama trademark. And the leather texture feels the same as the 6300. Overall I would say the 2196 was a better value for the price. And like I suggested the sale price of the Fine Stars looks like it really was a sale. A lot of that because of the cool suede second. Now that I have a seven day set of strops I think my SAD is in remission.

That's what I was thinking! The thick leather of the 6300 with the suede of the 3 and the Linen from the 2196! Combine those three surfaces with the Notovan/cotton and the Steerhide/linen and there are seven different surfaces to choose from. I'm still partial to the TM notovan. It's my favorite one. Actually the linen is the same on the 6300 and the 2196. So the 2196 is really a backup.
