I just ordered one. I selected paypal and then the store sent me an invoice. All said and done its ~$114 delivered via EMS
I like this one as it has the linen instead of the thick suede. The Suede is nice, but it doesn't really do anything for me. I'd rather have the canvas
Hurry...there's only 3 left

Hmm. I have a Kanayama with handles and a linen component. I also have a Fine Stars. I use it with a linen-only Kanayama that I bought a couple years ago from Jim Rion. But, it's a slightly different length from the Fine Stars. I wonder if I want to get one of these and sell the Fine Stars and linen-only one.
It's a good price. The maker isn't getting any younger. You already know how good the strops are. Ok, enough enabling
I use linen every time I strop, so for me, its a huge inconvenience NOT having them on the same "component." This model is going to be more of a daily strop for me than anything else. I think you really need to use the Kanayama linen daily for it to break in and hit its strike
-Nick
Eh, I already have two, although I didn't pay more than $110 for either (unless you count the linen-only one). It's not really enabling. My only other strop is a Torolf strop that I use when I'm afraid a razor will scratch the strop. Unless I damage one, try to restore a vintage strop or replace the Fine Stars, I don't plan to buy any more strops for the rest of my life.
That's why I don't use my Fine Stars much, even though I haven't put much effort into trying to use the suede side as a linen/cotton replacement. On the other hand, the linen-only strop is pretty broken in by now so is really nice to use. The linen on my 5260 is just starting to break in. My only concern about getting the 2196 is that I don't know how thick it is, and the low model number probably indicates that it's one of the really thin ones.
I know the 70-90 series are the same thickness. I think the 50-60 are too, and the 40 is only slightly thicker than the 30. But there are a number of "off models" that are similar to the 30 series, and I think they are all the same thickness. Once mine arrives I'll post measurements
-Nick
Correct, there is not an increase in thickness at every model number increase. And, there also are differences in width and guarantees of surface consistency. On top of that, outside of the models that Jim Rion used to sell, I have no clue how to correlate model number to thickness and surface consistency. I'm just saying that, given what I already have and the fact that this Japanese site does not list thickness measurements or show side views makes me hesitant to get one of those.
My Aframestokyo "3" strop is 3.84mm thick.
I measured it.
One, two! One, two! and through and through...The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
My Vorpal Razors
Looks like I got in just under the wire, I ordered one yesterday afternoon. I had contemplated purchasing this strop several times as a backup to my 50,000.

Of course it's dark, it's a suicide note.
