Boxers to Boxer-Briefs?

Wore briefs from about age 3 or 4 till I hit about 22. Went to boxer briefs and never looked back. After experimenting with a half dozen brands, the Hanes with the comfort waistband (it's not exactly padded, but it's soft like the rest of the boxer brief and does not dig in) is what I wear for daily wear as they're reasonably inexpensive and I can keep a bunch around.

For travel or high activity days, Ex Officio. REI also makes some fairly inexpensively that work very well.

For boxer briefs I wear Lucky brand. pricey, but worth it. Underarmor tend to heat up a bit too much for me.

I like to keep some of both. I use the boxer-briefs almost all the time, especially if there will be a lot of walking. Its comfortable and I have been lucky with the nicer types of hanes and fruit of the looms rather than the cheapest ones. Target has them.

I use boxers if I am going to be in a situation where I need clothes to dry quickly. Quick drying boxers, thin socks, gym shorts/shirts have been a lifesaver when traveling in hot humid countries without easy access to laundry/dryers. Again, I only have cheap ones from target currently. Back when I used boxers all the time I would get some from old navy or Gap or similar stores when on sale as I didn't care about the design. Marshalls/TJMaxx type stores also carry some.

I've always used briefs... the few times I wore boxers I found them unbelievably uncomfortable, no support at all, got tired of hitting myself on the knees

, so went back to briefs where everything stays in place.

I wore boxers growing up, then switched to mostly boxer briefs in college. I like the compromise between old school briefs and traditional boxers. Plus, women like 'em.

I really like Calvin Klein underwear. High quality and fit very well. Buy 'em somewhere like Marshall's or T.J. Maxx, where you can get several pairs for the price you'd pay for one at a regular department store.

I actually have several pairs of all three styles. I find that it depends on the activity which style I will wear. Mostly though, I wear the boxer-briefs. Have to concur with what someone said about Calvin Klein's. I had a couple pair and found them to be very comfortable; worn out and thrown out now though. I would get some more. One thing that has bothered me about some boxer-briefs I've had is when the leg is too long. I had a pair or two that went almost down to my knee it seemed. I felt like I was wearing biking shorts under my slacks. Some also tend to have too thick a hem on the leg, which could leave an outline when one is sitting. Probably not the most sophisticated look.

Can anybody recommend a size? Is it safe to go with the waist size on the label? or one size smaller for a snug fit??

I made the switch about 20 years ago. I had an outdoor project going one summer and really got sweaty and severly chaffed.

I did a bit of research and went from cotton or cotton blend to a 100% synthetic, polyproplene I think that wicks moisture away. I got them from Cabelas and have replaced them 2-3 times in the intervening years. They really last a long time and are extremely comfortable, and although a bit pricy are worth every penny to me in hot weather.

I had always thought cotton would be cooler, but it soaks up sweat and stays wet, whereas these move the sweat away from your body and never feel clammy and rough like the cotton.

That's one aspect that varies brand to brand, I know my Hanes are pretty spot on when it comes to sizing but with other brands YMMV

I rarely see much out in public worth getting an erection over, but regardless my junk isn't a yo-yo so I prefer boxer briefs. I have some Haynes, but they're pretty thin & cheaply made, the waistband stretches out & the crotch wears out in them pretty quickly. They're basically laundry day wear. My go to brand is Joe Boxer surprisingly enough, I have enough to fill half a dresser. They fit well, the leg is long enough I'm not constantly having to dig them out & they last a good long time. The starter brand were recommended to me recently and while they're quite thin the fit is great, I still have to wait & see how they hold up though. The Fruit of the Loom are the worst I've worn, I'm not a small guy & most of my height is in my torso. That being said, underwear should NOT cover my navel. I don't want to pull my underwear up & then clamp my pants waistband in my armpits so my underwear doesn't peek out. Worst . . . Boxer-Briefs . . . EVER!

I've been wearing boxer briefs nice they first came out and love 'em. I've been buying Reebok from TJMaxx lately for around $5 a pop, they breath well and a great fit. I tried boxers once but nearly castrateded myself bending over and picking something up off the floor. Don't know if all boxers are made that way with the seam running up the middle like that, but it knocked the wind out of me, that's for sure.
