The best bang for the buck you can get is probably Source Naturals Life Force. Vitamins like Centrum use low quality vitamins that don't absorb well, and even when they do, aren't as bioavailable as higher quality forms. If most of the minerals in your multi end with oxide, it's low quality.

ETA: I see NOW Adam was mentioned. This is also a good vitamin. I say that Life Force is a great vitamin at a good price, and Adam is a good vitamin at a great price.

Studies. This is the case with everything. Different proteins are more bioavailable than others - same with vitamins and minerals.

    Magnesium:

"In a study that compared four forms of magnesium preparations, results suggested lower bioavailability of magnesium oxide, with significantly higher and equal absorption and bioavailability of magnesium chloride and magnesium lactate [30]. This supports the belief that both the magnesium content of a dietary supplement and its bioavailability contribute to its ability to restore deficient levels of magnesium."

Your kidneys and liver have to work hard pumping out all the megadoses of low bioavailable vitamin forms.

Why is this stuff so difficult for us average folks to figure out? I am very un-trusting about these things. It would be nice if a person could simply take a blood sample, like on a diabetic testing device, and then get a print out of what they need and which products would be the best at supplying it. Even then I would probably be suspicious.

I explained it a little more in my multivitamin thread. These inferior forms of b-vitamins are used because many consumers do not know the difference, they go by price, or word of mouth, or pushy salesman (GNC).

Having been a buyer of such, I'll tell you that cyanocobalamin (inferior form of b-12 cost about $400 per kilo. Methylcobalamin (proper bioavailable form) costs up to $8,000.

One that makes me feel the best is Vitamin Code's Raw One. I have no idea whether or not one is better than another, but that one is the most convenient and makes me feel the best the next day.

I recommend getting the Alive Mens Multi-vitamins by Natures Way. Because there packed with everything you could want and there affordable and easy to find. You can buy them at wal mart, Drug stores, and of course your local health food store.

It gets worse. When studies come out, they usually present their findings in some sort of summary. Many times, they will cherry pick info, leaving out very relevant information regarding their findings, in order to get more funding.

That's how the FDA came up with the low fat diet - in a landmark study for fat related heart disease, 25 different countries were analyzed based on dietary fat content and incidence of heart disease. No correlation was found, so they picked 5 countries out of the study that had either low fat/low heart disease, or high fat/high heart disease, and presented this cherry picked info to congress.

Country Life, Gluten Free, Coenzyme B-Complex Caps

These are the only B-complex vitamins to contain the active, co-enzyme forms of the B vitamins (except folate, which they are in the process of changing over the the active methylfolate). This is the only B-complex I would choose and look forward to the inclusion of the methylfolate.

+1 on the comment about the FDA [and Australia's TGA is no better] !!!

I use the Ultra Man Daily Multi-Packs (30-day supply) from Vitamin World. It's a little bit of a hassle to swallow all the pills they include, but since I started using it, I've never lacked for energy and avoided a lot of the respiratory illnesses that I used to get around the change of seasons.

I take Kirkland Formula Forte multivitamins and multiminerals with lutein and lycopene. It works for me and I tend to get less sickness or maybe it`s just all in my head?

+1. They don't upset my stomach when I take them without food. Most multivitamin tablets, capsules, or liquigels will make me nauseous if I haven't had enough (or any) food when I take them.
