I explained it a little more in my multivitamin thread. These inferior forms of b-vitamins are used because many consumers do not know the difference, they go by price, or word of mouth, or pushy salesman (GNC).
Having been a buyer of such, I'll tell you that cyanocobalamin (inferior form of b-12 cost about $400 per kilo. Methylcobalamin (proper bioavailable form) costs up to $8,000.
