Default Has anyone worked their way through an old school writing primer?

    Hi all,

I've long wanted to improve my handwriting. Finding this forum has been awesome. In the past week I've read TONS of threads here and am getting excited about improving my style and legibility. In one of the threads I found the following:

    http://www.iampeth.com/books/ames_gu...uide_index.php

When looking at the examples of this writing style, I am very intrigued. I love the flowing and elegant hand. I figured I might as well start to work my way through the primer.

Has anyone worked through a primer such as this? Or perhaps something like the "Palmer Method". Did you find it effective? Are there other resources?

I'm looking for a copy of "Write Now", and will scour my library for resources too. However, learning a script style has more appeal to me at the moment. Any thoughts on the above primers, or methods? Also, when working with these styles, is it important to use a fountain pen, or will any writing instrument work to help establish mechanics/fundamentals?

    Thanks all!

mark, that's fantastic. I'm a designer at a church and have long wanted to work my way into hand lettering and scripts for design. I would imagine that something like that would be very useful. How have you utilized them..primarily as references? Where might I acquire those? Thanks!

I have used them over the years as references. When personal printers came out, they still come to me do hand letter a poster for them. I was able to creat a better looking sign by hand, however, with better printers today, it is just the opposite. There is a site with 10,000 fonts and many of them are copies of the above ones, I am able to do about anything I can imagine.

you can still find the books on ebay and maybe an art store...

comic sans...that would be an oval shape pen nib....easy as pie on that one....
