Default Can you help me identify this knife?

My brother came to me today and asked if I could help him with something. He has this knife (pictured below), which is of fairly cheap make, but he swears he remembers having seen a much higher quality folder, from a different manufacturer, with the same handle, and a similar curve to the top edge of the blade. He really wants this folder, but can't find it again with the limited information he has.

Does anyone know what knife he might be talking about? If not, can anyone recommend a knife specific forum that might be able to help?

BladeForums.com might be able to help you. If I had to hazard a guess, and it really would be JUST a guess, it might be an older model from Cold Steel. The design just brings that company to mind, for some reason. Don't take my word for it, though.

Are there any markings on the blade at all? What type of steel is it?

Stainless steel is all I know, the mark on the blade is Olympia, but it might be a knockoff of the one he wants, so the brand might be misleading.

I can't come up with anything. There are no numbers or other letters on the blade at all that may signify anything? If not, it's probably just some cheap knock-off and all the searching in the world won't help.

If it helps any, the best thing I can think of that would suit his taste would be a Cold Steel Espada in medium, large or extra large. That's a huge folder he has there and to buy anything close to it with decent quality steel from a half-decent company is going to cost a few bucks. Well, more like $150-200+.

That's about the best advice I can give you, sorry.

No numbers, no, other than saying Olympia, stainless steel, the picture of a bear and, barely visible, the word Viking, there are no marks. I know it's a long shot, but my brother has searched extensively, so I figured that if there was any chance that I could help, it was worth asking here.

The handle reminds me of the one on the Recon 1 by cold steel.

While the mystery knife does indeed look like a cheapo knockoff, I'd like to take this opportunity to suggest that your brother check out Becker knives and ESEE knives; both companies make some rather hefty knives but the kicker is that they're incredibly well-made, made in the USA, and have great warranties. Have him take a look at the Becker (BK&T) BK7. Good luck man, and do take a look over at bladeforums.com, some guys over there know an incredible amount about knives.

Bill Moran used to make a knife like that.

The becker knives are now being made by Ka-Bar, and are fantastic, heavy duty knives, i have the BK9 and BK2, but they are fixed blade knives.
