Radical RAD! I ordered a Muehle R41 Grande

The RAD continues...

And, yes, I'm taking a walk on the wild side with this one. Ordered the R41 Grande from Connaught due to their great pricing and recommendations here on B&B. I've seen the Grande for $69...Connaught sells it for $48 USD and their shipping is very reasonable.

I've read the horror stories about it's aggressiveness. I'm taking the street talk on this razor to heart...so I'll use the Grande after I've served my shaving apprenticeship. The combination of price, German craftsmanship and its assurance of a "strong shave" caused me to go for it.

This is my first brand new DE razor, so I'm psyched to get it.

just take your time and don't apply pressure, you'll be fine, it's nothing to fear, just respect.

In my Opinion....highly over hyped!! I've been using the R41 as my daily shaver for around two months now...with some rotation of my other OC's....but mostly a 4-5 day a week R41 guy.

I have NEVER cut my self with the R41...I am far more likely to get cut with the tech the the R41...why? Because the tech to me doesn't do as efficient job, so my technique isn't as good, and I end up applying pressure and get bit...

With the R41, use a good blade, good prep and adjust your shaving angle....also a light touch (no pressure) is essential. I love the R41 because I have a tough, coarse beard and am prone to razor burn....I can do less passes with the R41 than any other razor....which for me translates to less razor burn and irritation.

Make sure your read some of the post in the R41 combined thread.....I have a log in there from day 1 through a week or so if daily shaves with different blade combos.

I really like the Gillette Blacks, Israeli Red Personna's, Iridium Supers, and Supermax Super Platinums in the R41.
You will remove stubble that you didn't know existed!

Even on days the R41 isn't my primary razor, I still use it for touch ups, or even my final pass, and am always blown away how much stubble and audible feedback I get.

Congrats on getting a great razor...IMO the best of all modern razors

Just get the angle correct and be prepared to stop abruptly when you feel that you dig in otherwise you'll be missing a part of your face . Once you get the angle right it will give you the best shave possible w/o switching to a straight. Be careful at the beginning and get to know each other before speeding things up . And btw. I hate the orig. Muehle handle, I'm running mine with a bulldog handle which has more heft and much better grip.

Glad to hear your experience with the R41 is positive. I'm anxious to check it out as it's both my first new razor and first open comb. I hate these long waits for the goods...seems like I have 10 packages "in route."
