    Default A great little find

The other day I was searching on Etsy for some handmade shaving soaps and came across a young lady in Texas who makes some incredible soaps. Her business name is a little put off-ish, its called FairyBubbles, but don't let that scare you away! She mostly makes hand soaps and women's soaps, but she sent me some samples of her men's line and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Anyone looking for something new and actually very inexpensive (around $4 for a puck) should really check her stuff out. My favorite is the Manly Man shave soap, but Compass is very nice as well. She also makes a Bay Rum hand soap which is pretty amazing. http://www.etsy.com/shop/FairyBubbles

    Cheers!

Are the bars really only 1.75 ounces? That's half the size of a Mama Bear or Honeybee soap.

True. Most shave soaps clock in @ 4-5 oz.

The "lime lager" and "walkabout" sound pretty interesting, but you are looking at $6.50 shipped for less than half a regular puck of soap. $11 for 3.5 oz of soap, it'd better be really insanely good.

Is it 3.5oz by volume or weight?

nice pictures, but why go with etsy unknown product, when there are many proven soap makers on B&B, and their soaps are proven and you know will work.

like others have said $5/1.75oz is not cheap, it's right up there with QCS and MW and Mikes (1st 3 that came to mind). to get 2 pucks total of 3.5oz, shipped to US is $12. not worth it for me for a chance that it may end up as a body bar in the shower

There are brands that charge more than that for 1.75oz, or at least get marked up to that before hitting the customer.

Anyway, since this is a completely unknown brand here, lets see some lather pics and basic lather stability tests.

    Edit:

This is highly likely from a pre-made soap base. Not saying the soap is good or bad, just putting it out there. A quick Google search revealed several other shops selling soaps with the same ingredients (shaving and non-shaving soaps) and I also found this link:

Scroll down and you can find some soap bases with the same ingredient lists.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed all the responses I got from this post. Im not 100% sure, but I think she does make the soaps by hand, but I guess i cant prove that. Ill have to post some lather photos, I enjoy the product. Price is not usually a huge factor for me, seeing as i have a beard and just shave around the edges and my neck, i dont go through soap as fast as some of you out there. I bought a few different soaps to give them a try, and so far i havent finished one off yet. I dont find that $3.75 for a 1.75oz puck is too expensive, especially if it lasts me awhile. Has anyone bought any and tried it?

These were taken with my phone so they are not ideal in any sense. Hopefully they're good enough to get the point across.

(Change of subject-) I also recently tried Taylor of Old Bond Street's Avocado shave cream and was thoroughly impressed. Great lather, very nice smell and very slick. It actually smells much better on the face than in the tub in my opinion.

I do not mean any offense by this, but that lather looks less than ideal. Here is a quick and dirty shot of some Mike's I took earlier today. Notice how less airy it looks

Absolutely no offense. I feel it may be more of an error on my side than the soaps. Each soap requires a different amount of water to create an ideal lather, and I'm still getting used to it. I'll try some more photos with a richer lather.

As I said I'm still getting used to soap lathering, anyone have a tip or trick to not under water/over water the lather? Unfortunately I only have a pure badger brush. An upgrade is due!

By the looks of the ingredients, I'm sure it will lather fine. It's probably a Brambleberry-ish base with added fragrances.

KodiakAttack, for this kind of soap I would approach the puck with a relatively dry brush. After soaking it for a few minutes, let the water run out, shake it a couple of times, and then squeeze the water out at least once, maybe twice. Then load the brush with soap. Thereafter, add water a few drops at a time and work the lather until the bubbles are gone. Add a few more drops, work it till the bubbles are gone, etc., until you get the consistency you want.
