Proraso Soap - Moldy Smell?

I've been lurking here for a couple of years, but this is my first post. I really love this board - tons of great information and helpful folks!


I've been using Proraso cream (green tube) for awhile, and really like it. But I'm a bigger fan of soaps, so after my last tube ran out, I ordered the Proraso green tub from Amazon. I used it for the first time this morning, and found that it had a very strong musty/moldy odor. The tub didnt come in a box and it wasnt sealed, but I assumed this was how it usually is sold.

I was expecting pretty much the same scent as the cream. Has anyone else noticed a difference?

I don't find the soap musty or moldy smelling so maybe you got a bad one?

rancid old stock...return it...proraso has a fresh scent

Proraso in the green tub is very clean and menthol / eucalyptus scented. I haven't smelled the cream in the tube.

its probably old, return it. Did you get it directly from Amazon or another seller on there?

I got that smell from a bottle of AS splash. I tried the sampler at C.O. Bigelow and it wasn't there so I threw the bottle out. I guess stuff will eventually go bad...

Thanks everyone. I am returning it and ordering from the Italian Barber.

I purchased it through Amazon, but the vendor was SimplyBeautiful.

I ended up ordering from the Italian Barber (also got the pre/post cream), and it was a great experience. Prices are great, shipping was much quicker than I expected, and Joseph was really helpful.

I am definitely going to stick with the Italian Barber from here on out.

Another reason to buy from B&B vendors, chances are their stock would be better than amazon or unknown vendors. I had the same experience last year when I bought a TOBS sandalwood cream from amazon...returned it. Now, I buy everything from B&B vendors.
