    See this thread:

That is why they recommend against face lathering.
Some people use just the tips for face lathering, others mash it into the face with heavy swirls.
Thater are warning against that, because.... it is the usual way that people face lather.

There is a myth that brush action against the face softens and raises the hairs of the beard. In reality it does neither!
    A brush is intended to:
    a. create a good creamy slippery lather
    b. spread it onto your face to act as a lubricant for shaving.

Isn't that BullGoose's favorite Brush Company. The one that stands behind their product no questions asked? Odd, it looks like he is sold out of them.

The 'not getting it wet' part really tickled me.

My viewpoint is that if a company recommends against circular strokes, and/or building lather directly on the face, then their brush is unsuited for the intended purpose and their products should be avoided.

That's one way to make your decision on which brush to get much easier. My guess is that the guy who made the brush didn't write that on the piece of paper. To me, the brush is what it is.... and if it is well made and has a good reputation for what it's being used for then I wouldn't worry about what the instructions say and I wouldn't necessarily avoid the product (although there are plenty of other brushes out there to choose from). It's just ironic.... that's all. Personally, I'll stick to the opinions of the guys who use them in this forum over something conjured up by a lawyer on a piece of paper. Maybe I'm being a softy towards the company but....that's how I like the tips of my brush too so.... go figure.

+1 Thater brushes are amongst the best out there and certainly the softest. If you boil them and mash them in your face and they don't last, it is your problem. As mentioned in Rod Neep's post earlier brushes and silver tip brushes are delicate... so if you abuse them they won't last.. face lathering with the tips is no abuse... and if you like to mash them up, just buy a new one after a few years... but do not put it on the manufacturer...
