Definitely added to the bucket list. Almost makes me want to fly to London now :)

A historic shave in a historic location. Sounds brilliant!

Thank you VERY much for detailing the experience. You really brought it to life as I could see myself entering Trumpers, and smelling the products. Excellent information as well.

It's interesting that he didn't put a cold towel on to close the pores prior to applying the skin food and moisturizer. I have not had the fortune of getting a professional shave, but on one of Mantic59's postings, he went to a T&H master barber who described the aftershave process as cooling down the skin -- akin to warming up prior to exercising, exercising, then cooling the body down. I have been using a cold water rinse and love it...I believe it helps my skin as well. Did the barber mention anything about a cool down after the shave and hot towels? Also, did you happen to notice which moisturizer he was using?

    Hell BestFaceForward,

Great question. I do as you after the shave, I first rinse with warm water. I wipe remaining soap off with towel then followed by a cold water rinse afterwhich I apply after shave or balm.

At trumpers I am pretty sure after the second pass( which was done with only skin food ) He applied the towels scented with west indian limes not cold. Were they as warm as before the shave, I think not but I am pretty sure they were not cold. This was immediately followed with an app of skin food while the skin was moist. After he cleaned up a bit he applied some mooisturizer. It was trumpers un scented moisturizer. This experience was the best shave I ever had.
    Lesson learned:
Moisturizing is the key to a good shave. He accomplished this with skin food ( applied on wet skin) and trumpers moisturizing balm.
I have since changed the direction of my pass on the second pass. It was simply north south. Being afraid of causing razor burn. Now the first pass is North south and the second being sideways from the ears. This is what he did. Execpt under the neck. He went south north neck-chin only with skin food and I did not break out at all. I tried this 2 days later and it did not go well. I will remain north south under the chin.
Since this shave, I have not used an alcohol after shave and my skin feels much better. I have been using after the skin food clinique m lotion gel. Also prior to the shave I have been rubbing in skin food in opposite the direction of the hair groth as he did. Though without the balm.
    I hope this helps

Great video. That is what it was like except add plenty of skin food and moisturizing.

One of life's little luxuries - having someone else do the shaving! Thanks for sharing.

There should be a B&B forum for discussion, ratings, etc. of shaving establishments.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience. Sounds like the barbers at Trumpers have the freedom to perform shaves according to their unique style.
Watching the video I thought I heard him say he ended the shave with a cold towel whereas the OPs didn't. Don't know if I'll ever get to London but if I do......

OK, I'm officially jealous. Great story and a great vid of Trumpers.
How are you fixed for blades?

Very nice story. Thanks for telling. I never thought of applying GFT moisturiser before applying skin food before a shave! Certainly makes a lot of sense. Some great tips and an enjoyable read.

Trumpers is one of my favourite brands. I'm waiting of my shipment of sandalwood skin food from the Superior Shave. I'm normally a WI limes hound, but he's run out. I was skeptical at first because I'm not overkeen on persistent fragrances, but if it is, I hope it not nauseous.

Mr. Kamil Ozturk (the barber in the video) is a Master Barber for GF Trumper. From what I understand in the tradition at Trumpers, it is the Master Barbers who develop the system (procedures) which all barbers are to follow. Not sure why some Trumper barbers use a cold towel and some don't. I'll make some inquiries and get back to ya all. As a barber myself, I'm very curious as to who sets the protocol at Trumpers, as I remember being told a few years ago that it was the Master Barbers who do this, and that all other barbers are to follow suit with their procedures.
Have a great shave, and great day. - Troy
