Default Help picking a brush for hard glycerin soaps leaning toward a boar brush.

Well I am fairly new to wet shaving my first brush was a Edwin Jagger pure badger P36. It worked well with all my soaps even my hard soaps like Col Colonel Conk and Kell's Original. I wanted to get a nice silver badger so I picked up a Thater 4125/2 3-band badger. I really like this brush it works awesome for my soft soaps and cream. However, it does not do very well with my glycerin based hard soaps. I was kind of bummed about that but I love using a variety of soaps including the glycerin based ones. So I have been looking around and was thinking of getting either an Omega 31025 or the 81056. I am also looking at Semogue 830 or 630. I am open to suggestions for other brushes. Also if someone has owned a EJ pure badger and either a Omega or Semogue which ones are softer?

I'm still dealing with the two simple brushes that I have and haven't gotten the BAD yet. You might send a message to Jarrod and see if he can recommend something. Although on second thought, that means that you have to wait for an answer and cannot buy anything just yet... Nevermind.

I have no problems waiting my EJ pure badger brush works decent for my hard soaps. Just wanted to try a boar brush out. Everyone says after they are broke in they get pretty soft but still have a very stiff back bone which is suited to hard soaps. I don't feel like I am getting BAD yet but you never know. I like a being able to use several different soaps and wanted a brush better suited for hard soaps.

Omega 10049 is a champ, don't write it off because it's only $15

I didn't write it off because of price. I have heard a lot of good things about it. I like the look of the two tone plexi handle better. I also like the dimensions too. Leaning toward the Omega 31025 as it has similar dimensions.

Semogue 830!! Great small, soft, cheap, versatile brush!

Right now I am leaning towards the Semogue 830 or the Omega 31025.

I'd say those two are great and have owned both. However, I think the Owners Club by semogue is just a notch or two above both. I'd consider that one as well.

Get the Simpson's Colonel in Best Badger. It is as soft as most silvertips out there and has enough body for your glycerin soaps, e.g., Mama Bears that I use.

I love the Semogue boars when using hard soaps. I prefer the smaller ones, like my 50 mm 610 or 2011 LE FB1, to my larger, 55 mm brushes such as my SOC for hard soaps. While I have both, I prefer un-dyed boars. The 610 is the brush I reach for the most. I even use it more than my Simpson Eagle G3 in best, which is a hard soap monster. And the 610 was less than a quarter the cost.

Don't overlook a VieLong horse hair brush. I got a BGS2012 dyed horse hair from Phil over at Bullgoose and it has worked great with both soft and hard soaps.

I thought about a stiff Best Badger. But I wanted to try a Boar brush.

+1 on this. I bought a Vie-Long 14033 from giftsandcare.com using a B&B discount a few days ago. I also wanted a brush with good backbone, but soft at the same time. From all my research, I believe the horse hair brushes achieve that right balance. I'll come back and share my experience with the brush later when I receive my new brush.
