If you go to the "Experts Select" area of the Shavemac website you can build a 944 to your own specification. This will also give you the ability to choose a knot with a bulb, fan or flat-top shape. In the pictures below you see a 24-54 and a 26-50 (left to right in the first picture and reversed in the second) both dry and damp with a bit of bloom. The 24 is a fan & the 26 a bulb. Personally, I think the sweet-spot is a ratio of Loft/Knot of around 2. So if you were choosing a 26mm knot you'd pick a 50mm to 54mm loft.
By the way, which one do you like more? Fan or bulb? Any why?

I've just completed about 10 lathers with my custom D01 three band 22/46. I love my Simpsons brushes, but this brush absolutely kills the Duke, Classic, and Chubby in Best. Maybe there is variation in knots on both the Simpsons and D01 brushes, but I can't imagine a more dense brush than the D01 that I have. The knot (as stated earlier) is also significantly larger than spec (I measure 24/48mm). This brush in my view competes more with the Chubby's in super grade and represents very good value for money (Good backbone and a nice soft scrubby feel) One of the best brushes I have ever tried and about the only weakness I see is that it is a little hard for me to work with creams due to the density and fan shape.

Is this boxelderburl or any other wood?

Others might absolutely adore this brush, it really depends on your preferences. Eventually I'll have it re-knotted with a D01 3-band set at ~46. It's a poor picture but the handle is a thing of real beauty.

Yes, boxelder burl...picture doesn't do it justice.

I just received my 26/52mm D01 3-band in a horn handle. This thing is incredibly dense, I'm very pleased with the overall size and density. I think you will be very satisfied with your purchase.

Also it only took 7 days (excluding weekends) from the time I placed the order until I received the brush in Canada.
