Default Cheap, overlooked gems in the drugstore?

I am a big fan of both Brut and English Leather.

They are only occasionally mentioned here, but I think they are quite excellent and deserve to be revered as much as Old Spice. I am not saying they are as legendary as Aqua Velva, which to me is in a place all by itself. But they are great scents and work very well as aftershaves.

What do guys here think of them?

Brut is Just as classic as old spice...well maybe 25 years younger but still pretty iconic. Probably found in at least as many medicine cabinets as old spice and aqua velva. I have a bottle and I find it just ok. I've never smelled the original faberge version but the current stuff smells ok, and pretty potent compared to other aftershaves. Its a pretty classic fougere and according to the notes you'd think itd smell just like azzaro with the anise and basil in there but it's quite different. still, not bad for $5

Brut, and English Leather are both really good.

I am a big fan of the drugstore classics, that can be had for very little coin.

In addition to the already mentioned Aqua Velva, there is also Skin Bracer, Canoe, Clubman, Aqua Velva Musk, Barbasol Pacific Rush (available only at Dollar General), Aspen (said to smell quite a bit like the often raved about Green Irish Tweed), and Cool Water (which is very similiar to Aspen as well).

It's not what I would call a drugstore classic, but I also quite like the Tim McGraw line of colognes: the original Mcgraw, and Mcgraw Southern Blend.

One can't forget Quorum, or Halston Z-14, and I-12 which are also good fragrances for not a lot of coin.

Pierre Cardin Monsieur & Brut were my first Drugstore Frags, Skin Bracer was my Drugstore AS.

Brut is very good and part of my rotation, but a little goes a long way.

You guys are mentioning some great-smelling colognes and aftershaves. I own and like almost everything that has been mentioned.

Glad to know that I'm not alone in enjoying some of these classics. Now I just need to figure out how to properly mix Sam Mallone's classic seduction serum.

You should try English Leather Black. I found it is one of my faves!

Recently I bought what I thought was a bottle of Brut a/s but when I got home I realized it was cologne. So when I was at another store the next day I found the Brut A/S bottles which I found only in a smaller size. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Blue Stratos is pretty good too, let's not forget that!

Although it's not common in the States, IIRC.

One of the great, often ignored drugstore frags is Jovan Sex Appeal for Men.

I think that they are all essentially the same thing. The last time I looked, the cologne includes menthol too. I feel like they just put the same juice in all of the bottles.

Old Spice Pure Sport.. one of the best sporty blue scents I've come across. Pretty sophisticated for a drug store A/S.

I'm a fan of Old Spice Smooth Blast as well.

What sort of longevity are you guys getting out of Old Spice? The Old Spice aftershave in my experience has been quite short lived.

My vintage old spice last all day and night. My new production one lasts well, but fades by mid to late day. If I happen to sweat, for me, it wakes the smell up again. As I generally wear OS Smooth Blast more in the summer, it gets "woken up" often.
