    Default Newbie checking in

Hi all, just thought I would introduce myself. I have never shaved with a DE and have recently become obsessed with wanting to. I have been researching and finally decided to start with one of the Gillette Safety Razors from my fathers day but so far have been unsuccessful with finding one that suits my needs. I have been trying to find one in good shape that I would actually use on a daily basis but so far ebay is the only place I have found to buy them from and all of them seem to be going for a lot more than this forums suggests I should spend on one. As far as looking at new ones I'm not sure which one would be best. I really like the looks of the TTO's but the only one's I have found are the Vision (out of my price range) and the Weishi's (in my price range but Im afraid that being so cheap it may turn me off to DE's before I even get started). I would like to find a nice fat boy or other tto that is good for newbies. Can anyone point me in a good direction? I found a superspeed being offered for $25 on the buy/sell/trade forum but per the rules I have to be a member for 2 months i believe before I can use it, so in respect to the rules that would be a no-go for now. Is there a reputable website that I can purchase a vintage razor from at a decent price that anyone would like to share?

Either way, I'm glad I found this community and I intend to stay so I'm sure you will be hearing more from me in the future :)

Welcome to B&B. I don't own an old Gillette, so I cannot help you there.

Just to clarify, you are able to use the B/S/T forum. The "minimum postings" rule is only if you want to sell something. So feel free to check it out.

    Welcome to B&B

Check out Etsy for DE razors.

You might want to start off with a Gillette Tech. It is a nice mild razor and one that I still use occasionally

Welcome to B&B. You can purchase on BST at any time. Selling and trading is where the time and post restrictions come in. Any of the vintage Gillette's will do a good job for you. If you like TTO design start there. If you get an adjustable... don't do what I did and start with your first shave on 9. It's the most 'aggressive' setting. You may end up there but probably not best to start there. I got a great shave on 9 but it wasn't too comfortable.

Some sources for your initial acquitition...
    BST
    EBay
    Etsy
    Thrift stores
    Antique stores
    flea markets
    estate sales
    garage sales
craigslist? I have only seen one on craigslist.

    Enjoy the hunt.

Welcome to B&B. would suggest a simple (non adjustable) Gillette Tech razor - with a good blade a great shaver and very inexpensive.

+1 to a vintage tech; my first DE and bought it for a whole 10 bucks delivered.

Welcome to B&B. I have several Gillettes and GEMs. Most of them I bought on The Bay. I have seen listings for Safety Razors on some of the sources mentioned above (and copied below) and on sites like this one.

So just look around and you should find something.

    Nice List Worth Reposting.

Thank you very much too all the members who not only have made me feel very welcome here, but also assisted in pointing me in the right direction. I can't wait till I finally attempt my first "wetshave". Nothing like the first....or so I've been told ;)
